As part of our junior capstone, we developed OpenTab, a digital restaurant platform that advanced to the semifinals of Georgia Tech’s Create-X competition. OpenTab addresses inefficiencies caused by reduced restaurant staffing by allowing customers to scan a QR code to order, keep a running secure tab, communicate requests directly to their server, and close out instantly—streamlining the dining experience without replacing servers. Built with Firebase for real-time data and messaging and Dart/Flutter for cross-platform development, the platform was validated through customer and owner interviews and is designed to improve efficiency, reduce labor strain, and modernize sit-down dining.
