The first public release of HoldAwake Direct, a native macOS menu-bar utility for keeping your Mac awake. The DMG is Developer ID signed, notarized, and stapled by Apple.
Requirements
- macOS 26 or later
- Apple silicon Mac
- arm64 only
Highlights
- Indefinite and timed awake sessions
- Optional display sleep while the Mac remains awake
- Start at Login and Activate on Launch
- Optional Prevent Sleep support for portable Macs through an administrator-approved helper
Closed-lid safety
Warning: Preventing sleep while a MacBook lid is closed can trap heat, increase battery use, and leave the computer running inside a bag. Use this feature only with adequate ventilation and a power/display setup you understand.
On first use, approve the HoldAwake Direct background item in System Settings > General > Login Items, then return to the app and choose Prevent Sleep again.
Removing the helper
Choose Settings > Activation > Remove Helper. HoldAwake Direct restores and verifies normal lid sleep before unregistering the helper. Do not delete helper files manually while Prevent Sleep is active.
Manual recovery
If HoldAwake cannot confirm that normal lid sleep was restored, keep the MacBook open and well ventilated, then run:
sudo pmset -a disablesleep 0
pmset -gIf SleepDisabled appears in the output, confirm its value is 0.
