Release list
3.9.1: three docs instead of fifty, a shorter README
the repo's markdown goes from 56 files to 5 docs (README, CLAUDE, GUIDE, ARCHITECTURE, ROADMAP) plus the legal and vendored ones
the three big docs are trimmed: shipped log is one line a version, money, whitepaper, book, blueprint, autonomy and the Pi guide are condensed; old text lives in commit 35aa01c (the pre-merge main) and in git history
generated blocks (testing, type, benchmarks) now live inside ARCHITECTURE.md and their generators and checks point there
the README opens plainly, no more built-from-scratch pitch; launch drafts say the same
version 3.8.5; 3.9.0 will need a rebase and a bump to 3.9.1 when it lands; draft until ci-local passes
Boot it
The release above includes joshuatree-3.9.1.iso, a bootable disk image. Write it to a USB stick to boot on real hardware:
macOS:
diskutil list # find the disk (e.g. disk2)
sudo dd if=joshuatree-3.9.1.iso of=/dev/rdiskN bs=4mLinux:
lsblk # find the device (e.g. sdb)
sudo dd if=joshuatree-3.9.1.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress conv=fsyncThis will erase the stick. Double-check the device path first. Boot the machine from the USB stick (F12/F10/Esc/Del at power-on for most PCs) to start the kernel.
The ISO is proven to boot in QEMU (CD-ROM and USB-style raw disk) via the CI regression suite. Real hardware testing is ongoing.
3.9.0: the Pi gets every app, sharp
settings, finder, mail, weather, stocks, reminders and four games, all in spotlight and all drawn at 2x
clipboard, resizable windows, ink menu bar icons, graphite grey wallpaper (grey first in settings) and the flushed boot splash
the 17 pi checks pass, and the fan check is strict on solid grey runs
Boot it

sudo dd if=joshuatree-3.9.0.iso of=/dev/rdiskN bs=4mLinux:
lsblk # find the device (e.g. sdb)
sudo dd if=joshuatree-3.9.0.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress conv=fsyncThis will erase the stick.
3.8.4: a grey boot splash with a crisp logo, graphite grey ARM wallpaper
the pi splash is now neutral grey, no terracotta anywhere
the tree mark is drawn from the full 160 px art, so it is sharp, not a smudge
the bar under it is a calm grey
new arm64-splash-check.py in the ci suite; quietboot and crash checks follow the grey
Boot it
The release above includes joshuatree-3.8.4.iso, a bootable disk image. Write it to a USB stick to boot on real hardware:
macOS:
diskutil list # find the disk (e.g. disk2)
sudo dd if=joshuatree-3.8.4.iso of=/dev/rdiskN bs=4mLinux:
lsblk # find the device (e.g. sdb)
sudo dd if=joshuatree-3.8.4.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress conv=fsyncThis will erase the stick.
3.8.3: the small picker abstains on chat
The 3.8.0 picker called a tool on 26 percent of sentences that are only chat. Now it leans toward null, drops a pick whose lead is too small, and learned 1,400 more chatty rows: 7 percent on the same sentences.
Tool-level right rate is still 81.2 percent on Turing's nine dev sets; the C matches the Python reference on all 297 golden sentences (QEMU, no network). 26KB of kernel room left.
Part of Turing 10.0; safety bar still short of run 23's 5 percent, so no 10.0 tag. Draft until ci-local is green.

3.8.2: the Samantha chat icon carries the tile light
the importer now states the tile gradient on chat.svg, like the other dock icons
her portrait fits in 88 of 128 units so it keeps the top and bottom glyph margins
iconart-check passes all 11 dock tiles and now runs in the suite
it also stops failing on an idle desktop that presents no new frame

The release above includes joshuatree-3.8.2.iso, a bootable disk image. Write it to a USB stick to boot on real hardware:
macOS:
diskutil list # find the disk (e.g. disk2)
sudo dd if=joshuatree-3.8.2.iso of=/dev/rdiskN bs=4mLinux:
lsblk # find the device (e.g. sdb)
sudo dd if=joshuatree-3.8.2.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress conv=fsyncThis will erase the stick.
3.8.1: sam never hangs after an answer
the main loop could fall asleep right after enter queued a sam question
the key-up interrupt was already taken, so nothing woke it and the request never started
a queued question now keeps the timed wake, so the loop always comes back
model check passes 5 runs in a row, samfast, console and m1c pass too

The ISO is proven to boot in QEMU (CD-ROM and USB-style raw disk) via the CI regression suite. Real hardware testing is ongoing.
3.8.0: a small tool picker in C
Samantha's hands, distilled, in freestanding C on the kernel: pick <sentence> names the tool, pickcheck proves the C agrees with its Python reference on 297 golden sentences (QEMU, no network).
The Python version scores 3,820 of 4,455 tool picks (85.8 percent) on Turing's nine dev sets; it picks the tool only, the guard and arguments stay with the full model. It uses about 57KB of the kernel's room, 30KB still free.
Part of Turing 10.0; the whole family is not done, so no 10.0 tag yet. Draft until ci-local is green.

3.7.12: sam is fast on the board
sums like sam 10+10 now answer on the pi and never leave it
the pi remembers the relay (memory + JT/RELAY.TXT) and stops rediscovering every question
short replies, 30s limit, and a timing line so the next board pass shows where the time goes
relay.py untouched

3.7.11: Calculator in Spotlight
calculator was missing from spotlight, now it's there. type calc, hit enter, done.
empty spotlight now lists all 17 apps, not just the first five.
new arm64-spotlight-check covers both; calc, brick, browser-app, m1c, mouse, keys, focus all green headless.

3.7.10: fix the red splash checks
main went red when the splash landed, three checks still waited for the old boot
a fail or oom line now ends the splash so no failure hides behind it, and a crash draws its panel over it
crash, sd and wifi checks wait for splash up and the desktop now, crash asserts the terracotta around the panel
