Octopus is dormant by default. All shipped commands and skills use Claude
Code's native disable-model-invocation gate, and Claude/Copilot agent
adapters require an explicitly started Octopus workflow. Plain-prompt
routing remains available through an explicit OCTOPUS_AUTO_ROUTER_MODE=suggest|invoke preference. (#898)
Completion coaching, output compression, strategy rotation, statusline
context injection, session-memory restoration, GitHub queue checks, remote
workflow behavior, and statusline installation no longer engage merely
because the plugin is installed. Each is scoped to an active workflow or an
explicit opt-in. First-run, upgrade, and update-health notices are passive
system messages rather than model instructions. (#898)
Performance
Provider routing validation now uses Claude Code's host-side if filter and
no longer spawns for every Bash call. Direct Codex/Qwen/Gemini safety checks
are likewise host-filtered to those provider commands, blanket PostToolUse
matching is narrower, and inactive hook paths exit before JSON parsing,
provider discovery, state mutation, or network access. (#898)
Fixed
Session-affine workflow state prevents a stale workflow record from
injecting enforcement into a different Claude session. Explicit command
composition loads manual-only skill sources directly, preserving workflows
without reopening automatic model invocation. (#898)
The stable ~/.claude-octopus/plugin entrypoint now advances to the plugin
version loaded by the host, even when its previous cache directory remains
valid. Older cached releases can no longer keep explicit commands pinned to
stale hooks after a successful update. (#898)
