Release list
Granola 1.0.0
First public release of Granola — an 8-track granular synthesizer for macOS,
built on SuperCollider and designed around the M-Vave SMC-Mixer and
SMC-PAD Pocket.
Download
Granola-macOS.zip contains the app with everything inside it — SuperCollider,
its UGen plugins, and every Airwindows effect. Nothing else to install.
The app is not code-signed with a Developer ID, so after moving it to
/Applications, clear the quarantine flag once:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Granola.app
Apple Silicon only (arm64). For an Intel or universal build, build from
source with ARCHS="arm64;x86_64" ./Scripts/fetch-sc3-plugins.sh.
This is a controller instrument
Granola runs standalone, but that is not what it is for. It is built for eight
faders, eight encoders and a pad grid — see the README for the full mapping.
- SMC-Mixer in DAW mode (hold
Shift+Left/Righton the device) - SMC-PAD Pocket in CC mode, channel 4, CC 1–16 as toggles
What's in it
- True stereo granulation end to end — no summing to mono anywhere
- 8 tracks, each with its own cloud, envelope shape, filters, stereo placement and sends
- Per-track one-knob DJ filter on Shift + encoder — centre-neutral, low-pass through high-pass with coupled resonance
- Performance FX: ~100 Airwindows plugins assembled into random chains, with chain-wide loudness matching and a configurable fade
- Master JPverb reverb and a 10-second malleable stereo delay
- Nine project slots, saved from the controller or the app
- Live grain animation in every waveform window
Licensing
Granola's source is MIT. The bundle also contains GPL components
(scsynth, sc3-plugins) and an LGPL one (libsndfile), unmodified — see
THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES.md and licenses/ inside the zip.
