SHA256SUMS.txt covers the installer and the zip. The two standalone programs are copied out of that same zip and don't include Neovim: on their own they use an nvim on PATH. Use the installer or the zip to get the bundled one.
Tested on this build
- CI: the workflow built both programs twice and checked the results were byte-identical, then checked the subsystems, version resources and the bundled Neovim.
go test ./...passed on Windows and Linux. - Windows 11, by hand:
- The installer upgraded a 3.0.0-rc.1 install silently, and the installed programs are byte-identical to the files above.
- The installed app opened a project and a file with its bundled Neovim, and closed cleanly.
- The boot-sector example built and booted in QEMU (
PyxForge boot sector OK). - Ctrl+Shift+B started a build when sent as real keyboard input with the editor focused.
Known limitations
- The installer and programs are not code-signed, so SmartScreen may warn on first run.
- Pull only fast-forwards. Agents and Git worktrees are not implemented.
- macOS is only compile-checked.

PyxForge 3.0.0-rc.2
PyxForge v3.0.0-rc.2
A native developer workbench built with Go and Fyne.
PyxForge 3.0.0-rc.2 introduces a packaged Windows distribution, making it easier to install and run PyxForge without cloning the repository or setting up the Go development environment.
This release candidate focuses on Windows installation, portable distribution, editor integration, and developer-tool discovery.
Highlights
- Windows Installer: Install PyxForge using a conventional Windows setup wizard.
- Portable Distribution: Run PyxForge from a downloadable ZIP archive.
- Native Desktop Application: Retains the existing Go and Fyne architecture.
- Integrated Editor: Includes the PyxForge Neovim configuration and bundled Neovim distribution.
- Developer Tool Detection: Identify missing development tools and configure executable paths through PyxForge Doctor.
- User Data Preservation: Designed to preserve user settings and projects during upgrades and uninstallation.
- Offline-First Design: Preserves the existing offline-first behavior and no-telemetry policy.
Downloads
Windows Installer — Recommended
PyxForge-Setup-3.0.0-rc.2.exe
Download and run the installer to install PyxForge on Windows.
Portable Edition
PyxForge-Portable-3.0.0-rc.2.zip
Download and extract the archive to run the portable distribution. Read PORTABLE.txt inside the archive for usage instructions and information about configuration and user data.

SHA256SUMS.txt
Verify the integrity of the downloaded distribution files using SHA-256 checksums.
External Dependencies
Some development features require external tools, including Git, QEMU, GDB, compilers, assemblers, or language servers.
PyxForge Doctor helps identify missing tools and configure their executable paths. Refer to the installation documentation for details.
Important Notes
- This is a release candidate, not a stable production release.
- The Windows installer and application binaries are currently unsigned. Windows SmartScreen may display a warning when launching them.
- Compatibility testing on clean Windows environments is still ongoing.
- Back up important projects and configuration files before testing pre-release builds.
