OctoSnap 0.1.13
The editor is easier to work in.
- The editor opens at the size of the screenshot, with an even border round it, and the Background and Layers panels make room for themselves
- What is selected is outlined in orange along its own shape, with handles that show what they do, and a click or a right-click away lets go of it
- Text is typed as it will look, its colour is the letters' own, and it can have a background colour; the dots on a label's sides set the width of its box
- The pencil and the highlighter pick up their own strokes to move them
- The tools always sit on one line, level with the window's buttons, and the buttons at the bottom are icons
- One Esc closes All-In-One
OctoSnap 0.1.12
Desktop pets of your own.
- A pet pack, a folder with a sheet of the pet's frames and a short description of them, adds a pet of your own beside the five, and OctoSnap's updates leave it where it is
- Settings → Pets opens the folder, shows each pack's pet among the others, and says what to change in a pack it cannot read
OctoSnap 0.1.11
Windows open where they belong, even the first time.
- A card, a pin, the history or a capture's controls that are slow to draw, as the first ones after installing can be, open where they belong, not in the middle of the screen
OctoSnap 0.1.10
OctoSnap reads your captures for you, and the editor gains a magnifier, layers, Cut Out and vector export.
- Redact Sensitive Info covers the e-mail addresses, phone numbers, IBANs, card numbers, IP addresses, keys and passwords in a picture, in one step
- Select Text in the Picture (Ctrl+Shift+T) selects the words in a capture to copy them, and opens its links and addresses
- The capture history finds a capture by the words in it, and so does the Activities search
- The magnifier (M) shows part of the picture enlarged, joined to it by a line
- The Layers panel (F9) lists every mark, and reorders, hides and locks them
- Cut Out (Shift+X) removes a band across or down the picture and closes the gap
- Save As writes SVG and PDF, with the marks as vectors
- A pencil stroke held still becomes a line, a rectangle or an ellipse. A pen's pressure sets the pencil's width, and two fingers pinch to zoom
- Numbered badges renumber themselves, and badges and labels can point at something
- Ctrl+? lists every shortcut
- OctoSnap's icon offers each capture and the history, and Files opens pictures in OctoSnap
- From a terminal, a capture can go to standard output and a picture come from standard input
- On a background, a pixelation or a blur is made from the part of the picture it covers, not from beside it; a spotlight darkens all of a cropped picture; and at square corners a cropped picture no longer shows the rest of the capture around it
- On a background, a picture you paste or drop lands on the picture, and one dropped at an edge joins it inside the background, which grows around both. The crop snaps to the picture's edges where you see them
- A background added after a crop past the picture's edge goes around the whole crop, the room it made and what is on it included, and None leaves the crop as it was
OctoSnap 0.1.9
OctoSnap updates itself.
- The Flatpak now comes from OctoSnap's own repository, where every release is signed, and updates from it: in Software, with flatpak update, or from OctoSnap
- When a new release is out, OctoSnap says so once, and installs it from that notification, from Settings, or from Update OctoSnap in the top bar's menu. It then starts the new release in its own place as soon as none of its windows is open
- A Flatpak installed from an earlier release's file does not update: uninstall it, which keeps your settings and history, and install it from the repository, as the README says
- The repository says how to report a bug or a security issue, and how to contribute
OctoSnap 0.1.8
Text recognition says where to get the library it runs on.
- OctoSnap built from source reads text with the system's ONNX Runtime. When it is missing, a read now names the package to install for your distribution, with a button to the instructions, where before it only named the library
- Once ONNX Runtime is installed, the next read uses it. Before, OctoSnap only noticed it after you logged out and back in
- ONNX Runtime is found where Fedora and openSUSE install it
OctoSnap 0.1.7
Text recognition tells you what it needs, and gets it.
- Reading text with no language pack installed opens Settings at the language packs, with the one for your language ready to install. Once it is in, the text you captured is read and copied, with no need to capture it again
- The Install and Remove buttons of the language packs work. Before, they did nothing, so a new installation could not get a pack from Settings
- A text capture no longer plays the camera shutter or flies to the corner as a screenshot does: its sound is the one that says the text was copied
OctoSnap 0.1.6
Quieter pets, aligned text, and a clipboard read from anywhere.
- Two new Liveliness settings for the pets: Silent, where they start nothing by themselves but still react to you, and Zen, far calmer than Calm. A new size, Smol, sits between Tiny and Small
- Marks drawn on a background's margin are no longer cut away, and None in the Background panel takes the whole background away
- Text can be aligned left, centred or right
- The default background preset can be added to every new screenshot, from the editor's Presets menu or from Settings
- A picture made from a saved project remembers it: the history's Projects filter finds it, and Annotate opens the project again
- The unsaved-changes dot and a card's Trash button follow what was really saved, so undoing and drawing again is no longer taken for saved work
- Annotate the Clipboard's Image works while another application has the keyboard, for a copied picture or a copied image file
OctoSnap 0.1.5
Saved files are the format you chose, and a copied GIF stays animated.
- A screenshot saved as JPEG or WebP is now really a JPEG or a WebP, and the JPEG quality setting is used: before, both were PNG files under another name
- Save As writes the format the name you give asks for
- Copying a GIF copies the file itself, so it pastes animated into Files, a chat or a web page. A screenshot is still copied as a picture
OctoSnap 0.1.4
The cards step aside, and the editor learns to lock.
- The capture cards leave the corner while you choose an area, so they are neither in the way nor in the picture, and come back when you have chosen
- A picture pasted into the editor is picked up by its edge, so you can draw on it, and reach what is drawn on it, like anywhere else
- Right-click anything in the editor to lock it: a click then goes through it until you right-click it again and unlock it
