Aide v1.0.7 (107)
Aide v1.0.7
Version 1.0.7 · build code 107
If Aide was closing immediately on open — try this one
We have not yet been able to confirm the cause of the launch crash reported in v1.0.6, so this release removes the worst part of it rather than claiming a fix we cannot prove.
Room checks that your database matches what the app expects the first time it is opened, not when you install. If that check fails, the error surfaces from inside a background task with nothing able to catch it — so Aide would open and shut straight back down, every time, with no screen and nothing you could do about it.
Aide now opens the database at launch where a problem can actually be caught, and shows you a recovery screen instead of dying.
What the screen offers, in order:
- Save a copy of my data — copies your database out first, so nothing is lost
- Try again — retries opening; if it works you carry straight on as normal
- Start fresh — only as a last resort, behind a confirmation, and it tells you plainly that it erases your products, sales, expenses and customers
If Aide opens normally for you, this release changes nothing you can see.
If it still closes on open
Then the database is healthy and the cause is elsewhere, and we need one line of information from you. With a USB cable:
adb logcat -c
Open Aide on the phone, then:
adb logcat -d | grep -iE "AndroidRuntime|FATAL|aide" | head -30
Send us that output and we will find it properly.
Also
kotlinx-coroutines-androidis now declared directly rather than inherited, so the app's background work can never lose its main thread.

Aide v1.0.6
Version 1.0.6 · build code 106
The theme now actually works
If you picked a colour during setup and the app still looked plain — that was a bug, and it's fixed.
The chosen accent was being saved in two separate places at once. The splash read one, the rest of the app read the other, so a colour picked during first-run setup would show on the splash and then be ignored everywhere else. There is now a single place the theme is stored, and it applies to the whole app.
If you picked a colour before this update, it has been recovered automatically — you don't need to choose it again.
Light and dark mode
There was no way to choose. Aide simply followed your phone's setting, with no override anywhere in the app.
Settings → Appearance now has a System / Light / Dark selector. Your choice is remembered and applies immediately.
Omix Systems
Aide is built by Omix Systems, and that's now stated in the app:
- Settings → About — the Omix Systems website, your version and build number, and a Check for updates button.
- A "Made by Omix Systems" credit at the foot of the More screen, which opens our site.
We deliberately did not put our name on the receipt — that's your customer-facing paperwork and your call to make.
Also
- An app sounds toggle has been added to Settings. The sounds themselves arrive in the next release.
- Settings now has a proper Appearance section grouping the accent colour and the new light/dark choice.
Upgrading from v1.0.5
Normal in-place update. Nothing to do — your products, sales, expenses and customers are untouched.

Aide v1.0.5

Your Settings now actually do something
In v1.0.4 the Settings screen saved every field and nothing read it back. Specifically:
- A VAT rate was never charged. Sales recorded zero tax, so the VAT line in Reports always read KSh 0.00.
- The receipt ignored your business name and footer, printing a fixed "Aide Business Register".
- The currency setting did nothing — amounts were hardcoded to KSh.
All three are fixed. Set a VAT rate and it is now applied to every sale and itemised on the receipt. Set a business name or receipt footer and it appears on the receipt. Change the currency or accent colour and the whole app updates immediately — no restart needed.
VAT is treated the same way the web app treats it: prices are VAT-inclusive, so the tax is worked out from the amount the customer actually paid. A receipt showing KSh 1,160 at 16% now correctly itemises KSh 160 of VAT.
The app can now tell you about new releases
Previously the version was baked into the APK at build time, so an install could only ever report what was true the day it was built — it would claim to be up to date forever.
Aide now checks for a newer release when it opens and shows a banner with Download and Later. The check is best-effort: if you are offline it stays quiet and nothing else is affected.
Reliability
The v1.0.4 release briefly published with no downloadable file while still reporting success. Release publishing now verifies the uploaded APK is actually attached before it is considered a success, and retries the upload if it fails. You should never see an empty release again.
Quality
The automated test suite grew from 2 checks to 12, covering the VAT and profit arithmetic and the update comparison — the calculations a shopkeeper would notice first if they were wrong.
Upgrading from v1.0.4
No action needed. Normal in-place update; your products, sales, expenses and customers are untouched.

Four buttons that did nothing now work
In v1.0.3, tapping Customers, Expenses, Reports or Settings in the More menu did nothing at all. There were two separate causes: the tap handlers were empty stubs, and those screens were never registered as destinations — so even a working handler had nowhere to go. Both are fixed.
New screens
-
Settings — business name, currency, VAT rate and receipt footer. Also the accent theme, notification toggles (master plus per-channel), and Export data, which writes a real JSON copy of your products, sales, expenses and customers.
Uninstalling the app deletes everything on the device. Export a copy first.
-
Expenses — record shop overheads by category (rent, utilities, transport, wages, restocking…), with a flag for cost of goods so it is never counted twice against profit.
-
Customers — a directory with search and outstanding balances, plus a running total of what you are owed.
-
Reports — revenue, gross profit, overheads, net profit and margin over today / 7 days / 30 days / all time, plus top products, payment-method breakdown, and spend by category.
Calculators
- Change calculator in the checkout — change due updates as you type the amount received, with quick buttons for the common rounded-up note.
- Profit and pricing calculator (More → Calculator) — enter buying price, selling price and quantity to see revenue, profit, margin, and a warning if you are pricing below cost.
Product photos
Products can now have an image. Pick one from your gallery when adding a product; photos show in inventory and in the point-of-sale product list. Nothing is uploaded anywhere — images are stored on the device only, and the app asks for no storage permission.
Corrected launcher icon
The app icon on your home screen is now the real Aide logo, generated from the same artwork the website uses. In v1.0.3 it was a rough placeholder.
Also fixed: you can now correct a cart
Adding something to the cart was final — there was no way to change the quantity or remove a line. The only options were completing the sale or starting over. Each cart line now has quantity and remove controls.
Upgrading from v1.0.3
This release adds an expenses table and a customers table, so the local database moves from version 3 to version 4. The upgrade is a safe, in-place migration — your existing products, sales and history are preserved, and nothing needs to be reinstalled or re-imported.

Aide v1.0.3 (103)
Aide v1.0.3
First Android build this project has been able to actually produce. assembleDebug,
assembleRelease and the unit tests all failed before this release.
⚠️ This is a new app, not an update
The application ID changed from ke.co.aide to com.omix.aide. Android matches
updates by package name, so this APK installs alongside v1.0.2 rather than
replacing it.
- If you have Aide v1.0.2 installed, uninstall it after exporting your data
(Settings → export), then import into this version. - Existing sales history does not carry over — the local database lives inside
the old app's private storage. - Fresh installs on a new device are unaffected.
Fixed
- The Android build was broken. A half-finished package rename left 22 source
files missing, and the replacement files referenced packages and APIs that did
not exist.MainActivitycalledsetContenttwice; the splash painted a
detached copy of its own layout;ThemePickerScreenmixed View and Compose APIs. - The new-release check never ran.
ReleaseReceiverwas registered
exported="false"with noBOOT_COMPLETEDfilter and no
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETEDpermission, and the hand-writtenBuildConfigread the
system resource table, so it could never see an injected value. - Release versions came from the wrong place. They were grepped out of
build.gradle.kts, which is how v1.0.1 shipped an APK that reported itself as
1.0.0. The tag is now the source of truth — this build is 1.0.3 / code 103
because the tag saysv1.0.3. - Signing now fails closed. The keystore step silently did nothing when its
secret was missing, which shipped unsigned APKs.assembleReleasenow aborts
rather than produce one, and the finished APK is verified withapksigner
before it is published.
UI
- The accent theme picker actually works now. It was a near no-op — the brand
colour was hardcoded in 11 places, so choosing Plum, Teal or Amber changed
almost nothing on screen. - Muted text uses the proper
onSurfaceVarianttoken instead of hand-rolled
onSurface.copy(alpha = …)workarounds. - Dashboard and inventory show a loading state on first launch instead of
briefly displaying zeroed stats and "No sales recorded today yet". - Payment-method chips and the product "+ Add" button raised to the 48dp
minimum tap target. - Cards use a hairline border instead of a drop shadow, which stays legible in
dark mode.
