Hype 0.6.0

Choose a tag to compare

@dhh dhh released this 15 Oct 01:14
  • Place logos and small images in any of nine positions without changing the slide's text layout or theme colors. Choose Place and Size from the Layout menu, or write ![position=bottom-right size=10%](logo.svg). Still and animated images keep their aspect ratio, with sizes from 1% to 100%.
  • Replacing a placed image preserves its position and size. Pasted images retain enough detail to enlarge them later, and placed SVGs stay vector in PDF even beside slide text.
  • Presenter View shows the current slide, next slide, slide counter, and speaker notes written as <!-- comments -->. With a laptop and external display, the audience sees fullscreen slides on the external display and the presenter sees notes on the laptop.
  • Navigate slides, use Shift+F5 to return to the first slide, and play or pause media from either window. Ending the show restores the editor's original display, size, and maximized state.
  • Connecting or disconnecting a display ends the show, hides the notes, and returns the editor to a connected display.
  • Omarchy theme colors can be quoted or bare hex values with trailing comments, including comments directly after a closing quote. Malformed quoted colors fall back to the default palette.

Hype 0.5.0

@dhh dhh released this 14 Oct 02:38
  • Draw graphics directly in Markdown with an svg code block. Inline drawings follow the presentation's colors and font, and stay vector in PDF.
  • SVG image files stay sharp at any size and remain vector in PDF when shown without text overlays.
  • Markdown tables render with aligned columns, alignment rules, and preserved cell padding.
  • Keep your cursor and scroll position when tabbing between the editor and slide list. Switching between Visual and Markdown preserves the character you're editing, including positions in front matter.
  • Navigate slides while typing with Ctrl+Up/Down and Ctrl+Page Up/Page Down. Home and End work as normal text-editing keys in both editors.
  • With the slide list or Overview focused, Ctrl+Page Up/Page Down moves selected slides five places, and Ctrl+Home/End moves them to the beginning or end.
  • Shift+F5 starts presenting from the first slide, or returns to it during a presentation.
  • Slide navigation is faster, sharp previews reliably replace loading thumbnails, and quieter borders distinguish the selected slides from keyboard focus.
  • Save As preserves nested and hidden media, detects collisions, and rolls back an incomplete copy. New presentations take their title from the saved filename unless you set one explicitly.
  • Changes to media files refresh thumbnails and the presentation's reported file size.
  • Source builds can use Qt installed under build/qt/ or selected with HYPE_QMAKE, with clearer errors for unsupported versions.

Hype 0.4.3

Choose a tag to compare

@dhh dhh released this 27 Sep 19:46
  • Exports size themselves to your machine. A workstation renders sixteen slides at once; a laptop with little free memory renders fewer and converts videos afterwards, so exports finish instead of being killed. An 88-slide deck now exports under a 2 GB memory limit.
  • PowerPoint files are less than half the size and export faster: slides are stored as high-quality JPEG at 4K, with no visible difference.
  • PowerPoint exports keep their temporary files on disk instead of in memory, and animations convert with 700 MB less memory.
  • The top bar has two mode buttons that match the shortcuts: the grid turns the overview on and off (Ctrl+M), and the slide/# button switches between Visual and Markdown (Ctrl+.).
  • Sidebar thumbnails are exactly 16:9, so slides are no longer cropped at the edges.

Hype 0.4.2

@dhh dhh released this 26 Sep 11:50
  • PDF exports are about three times faster and a fifth of the size. Pictures are now stored as high-quality JPEG at 4K, where the compression isn't visible; text stays vector.
  • PowerPoint exports convert videos and animated images using half your cores instead of two, roughly halving export time for decks with animations.

@dhh dhh released this 21 Sep 12:12
  • hype skill install teaches your coding agents about Hype. It copies a short skill to ~/.agents/skills/hype/, where Codex finds it, and links it into ~/.claude/skills/ for Claude Code. hype skill prints it instead.
  • The skill points agents at hype help format, so it stays current as Hype is upgraded.

Hype 0.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@dhh dhh released this 21 Sep 11:58
  • A command line for scripts and AI agents, which needs no display: hype new, check, slides, render, export, and themes, each with --json. hype check reports every problem with its slide and line, and hype render --slide writes a single slide as a PNG.
  • hype help format prints the whole slide format for an agent to read once. hype alone now lists the commands; hype open starts the editor, and hype talk.md still does too.
  • The editor stays on the slide you are viewing when another program edits the file, follows it when slides are added or removed before it, and updates it in place. Ctrl+Z undoes such a change.
  • Exports and --help no longer fail without a display, and headless exports no longer change which presentation the editor reopens.

Hype 0.3.3

Choose a tag to compare

@dhh dhh released this 21 Sep 10:54
  • Much faster PowerPoint export: slides are rendered and compressed across several cores, turning a 36-second export of a 125-slide deck into about 4 seconds.
  • Smaller PowerPoint files: opaque slides are stored without an alpha channel, about 12% smaller.

Hype 0.3.2

@dhh dhh released this 21 Sep 10:12
  • Faster editing: slides with tables, lists and headlines re-render up to six times faster as you type, and text over photos blurs twice as fast, which also speeds up PDF and PowerPoint exports.
  • A smaller app: the installed binary is about a quarter smaller, and Hype no longer loads Qt Widgets.

Hype 0.3.1

@dhh dhh released this 20 Sep 23:32
  • Fixes a crash when switching the desktop theme while Hype is running. Hype no longer loads the GTK3 platform theme, and reads the interface font from the desktop settings portal instead.
  • A new app icon: a deck of slides with a Markdown headline.
