This would be great, my ISP makes my omarchy waybar weather show a location 300 km away now. |

Thanks for pulling this together Felix. Looking at all three PRs, I
think #5745 is the most complete foundation — it’s the only one that
updates both omarchy-weather-icon and omarchy-weather-status, so the bar
icon and the click notification stay in sync. It also uses the existing
~/.config/omarchy/current/ convention that matches theme.name and other
state files.
The one thing #5714 has that mine doesn’t is the Setup → Weather →
Location menu entry, which is a good idea for discoverability. I’m happy
to add that to #5745 if that’s the direction maintainers want to go —
that way we get the complete implementation in one PR.
Happy to close mine and contribute to either of yours if you’d prefer a
different base.

We can all Identify one PR that meets the issue well. Consolidate our

I agree. I can add the menu option to my build.
Do we all agree?

Mine #5714 <#5714> I am not
sure confident especially on the needed Omarchy needed conventions.
As it stands I am ok closing #5714
<#5714> hoping though if
maintainers agree keep the Setup → Weather →
Location menu entry idea

My PR is consistent with KISS, just right click on the widget and you
can change your location. I'm not really with the idea of the menu
because for now it is too complicated with a lot of options.
The only diff between the PRs is the menu, so I think the maintainers
should decide what they want in their distro: the menu or just a click
or maybe both. So I suggest keeping 2 requests with different options.

I think this improvement would be really nice. One additional thing would be the option to change units. Like https://wttr.in/?format=%l%7C%t%7C%w to get m/s. |

I like that idea. I will set it up to auto detect first but then allow
you to make a change.

Also worth mentioning that it seems to default to F, when most of the world uses C. |

With upcoming Omarchy 4 it will be possible to change location by clicking the City within the weather plugin. |

Uh oh!
There was an error while loading. Please reload this page.
Omarchy 3.8.0 includes weather support in the Waybar, which is a great addition. It works well out of the box, but on some setups the automatic location detection via wttr.in is unreliable.
In my case, wttr.in sometimes returns coordinates instead of a resolved location name, e.g.:
XX.XXXX,XX.XXXX|+28°C|↖26km/h
This makes the weather display less useful in the status bar.
Problem
The current implementation relies on:
https://wttr.in?format=%l|%t|%w
Issues observed:
IP-based geolocation is inconsistent depending on ISP/VPN/routing
%l can fall back to raw coordinates instead of a city name
Users cannot override location without modifying internal scripts in ~/.local/share/omarchy
This breaks the UX expectation of a clean, stable “status bar weather widget”.
Proposal
Add a user-configurable location setting in:
Setup → Weather → Location
This setting would allow users to explicitly define their weather location (e.g. Nairobi, London, Tokyo).
Suggested Implementation
Support an optional config override, for example:
~/.config/omarchy/weather-location
If present:
https://wttr.in/${location}?format=%l%t|%w
If not present, fall back to current behavior:
https://wttr.in?format=%l|%t|%w
Benefits
Fixes unreliable %l geolocation fallback (coordinates issue)
No breaking changes (fully backward compatible)
Keeps current auto-detection as default behavior
Gives power users deterministic control over weather source
Improves reliability for VPN / cloud / remote users
UX Suggestion
In Setup → Weather:
Field: Location
Placeholder: Auto (default)
Example values:
Nairobi
London, UK
New York
Newly suggested script.
I am not well versed with how I should create a good PR on the subject
