Built-in webcam not working on Acer Nitro laptop, also broken on Ubuntu #6298
System detailsSystem details - Device: Acer Nitro laptop - GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU - OS tested: - Omarchy: camera not detected / not working - Ubuntu: camera also not detected / not working - Kernel tested on Ubuntu: 7.0.0-22-generic - Display/session: GNOME / Linux desktop - Camera type: built-in laptop webcam - External USB webcam: not tested / unknownWhat's wrong? What's wrong? The built-in laptop camera does not work on Omarchy. I also tested the same laptop on Ubuntu and the camera does not work there either, so this may not be an Omarchy-specific configuration issue. The camera is not detected by normal webcam apps, and it appears that the built-in webcam may not be exposed as a standard USB/UVC camera. This laptop likely uses a newer MIPI/CSI/ISP camera pipeline, which may require additional kernel driver, firmware, or libcamera/media-controller support. Expected behavior:
Actual behavior:
Could Omarchy document whether this laptop camera is unsupported upstream, or include any required packages/firmware/libcamera configuration if support exists? Note: I am reporting this to Omarchy because I tested Omarchy and the camera did not work, but the same camera also fails on Ubuntu. So I understand this may be an upstream kernel/firmware/libcamera support issue rather than a direct Omarchy bug. |

I think this is our reach to correct. This is something that has to be fixed upstream in the kernel or by Acer supplying a driver. |

Target Hardware: Acer Nitro 16S AI (AN16S-61-R0Z7), AMD Krackan APU platform (Zen architecture), NVIDIA RTX 5060 Mobile. Operating System: Arch-based Linux (Kernel 7.1.9-arch1-2) using Omarchy. Hardware Architecture: Integrated Sunplus USB Camera (VID 0408:PID 4059) and Digital MEMS Microphone array located on a unified top-bezel PCB, sharing a common switched +3.3V power rail via an eDP cable harness. The shared +3.3V power plane is hard-gated by the Acer Embedded Controller (EC). Under Linux, the EC holds the GPIO power-enable pin LOW because it does not receive proprietary ACPI/WMI initialization signals. The digital MEMS microphone array and Sunplus camera share the same physical 3.3V power rail. Any failure by the EC to power the camera disables the microphone array simultaneously. PS: Have been trying to apply a custom kernel patch since the day I booted linux, still nothing. |

Understood. Since the camera also fails on Ubuntu and does not expose a usable |

I found a way to fix this if you are interested refer to here https://github.com/abduvaliy-engineer/acer-nitro-anv16s-camera-fix |
