Super+K Popup Key bindings list only shows one entry after update 3.8.2

Hi!

After last update I noticed that the Super+K pop-up only displays a single key binding reference. (Shift Alt + L →Copy URL from Web App)

I've been trying to solve it myself and I found out that a similar behavior was adressed already last year, same problem as described in issue #4336 (closed)

I've not attempted that patch yet because it is supposed to be already implemented in past updates and I don't know if I'm risking breaking something after so many versions, or if it might even be of the same origin.

Also, the key bound commands seem to be working just fine, at least every one I use and a couple more that I checked from the config lists.

The error message produced by omarchy-menu-keybindings --print is almost identical as the one the OP and several users reported in issue #4336 , except for the code coordinates, in my case:

SHIFT ALT + L                       → Copy URL from Web App

In case it is of any relevance, I'm over Cachy OS (needed the kernels), and I haven't had any persistent issue. Only this, a dumb old apple keyboard behaving nasty and a persistent Fcitx5 compatibility notification at startup, which has apparently caused me no issue so far (it was already happening when this current thing popped up)

Is anyone else experiencing this?

post your bindings.conf, it's probably a misconfiguration or an edge-case, it's easier to fix if we see what you have defined.

it might also be a language/locale specific problem. post the output of the terminal command 'locale'

This bindings.conf? This is the one currently in .config/hypr/, Not 100% sure but I believe I didn't modify this.

your bindings look fine to me.

i took a look at the script (Omarchy usually uses bash scripts for most functions)
and there is only one part of the script that uses 'jq' (jq parses json files)
if you wonder the script can be seen here: ~/.local/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-menu-keybindings

in easy terms: it runs the command 'hyprctl monitors -j' ,then uses jq on it.

if you want to copy it into the clipboard, use:

hyprctl monitors -j | wl-copy

then paste it here using the 'code' button above.
we can than figure out which line of your monitor configuration is causing a problem (as seen in the error message).

Generally i would classify this as a bug, because the script should handle all valid monitor data that is exported by the hyprctl monitors -j command.

But maybe there is a workaround in your case ,we can figure out.

I'm on a laptop and I have two different desks, each with its extra monitor, although the bug happened with the laptop standing alone if I remember correctly.

Your configuration looks fine ,i've tested it with 'jq' ,it has no errors.
do the following: once the SUPER+K doesn't work, do the command again: hyprctl monitors -j | wl-copy

Note alternatively you can test it yourself, using:

hyprctl monitors -j | jq it should not print out ,but bring up an error (that's why the Omarchy Script is failing)

What dou you mean by this? Once I press SUPER+K, then the command? SUPER+K works, the only issue is that it only shows that single entry despite every keybinding apparently working.

However, hyprctl monitors -j | jq doesn't throw any error that I can spot, seems to print the same as hyprctl monitors -j but more format rich.

Today I have been doing some succesful custom monitor resolution configurations but the SUPER+K pop up is still depopulated.

Should I leave this alone and report the bug?

As for your question if you should create a Bug Report:
it's better to analyse yourself first to be able to create a very detailed report, especially in a case like this where for most users the function works ,but in your system it's bugged, then it's very helpful to have more details first.
That's the reason i ask your for all those questions ,to figure out what exactly is causing that problem :)

Back to trying to find the reason:
so the error still exists, if you remember you did hyprctl monitors -j 2 days ago, but that time there was no error in the data.

The error says literally on line 15 ,column 36 of this 'data' that is output by hyprctl monitors -j, there is an error.

However 2 days ago there was no error as far as i could see.

okay, let's try to analyze, since the tool that is creating the keybindings is a simple script we can find out more easily what it's triggering the error:

first make a copy of the original (replace 'markus' with your username):

cp /home/markus/.local/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-menu-keybindings /home/markus/.local/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-menu-keybindings-bak

then edit with nvim:

nvim /home/markus/.local/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-menu-keybindings

then use '/jq' (press ENTER) to jump to the only location jq is used:

  monitor_height=$(hyprctl monitors -j | jq -r '.[] | select(.focused == true) | .height')
  menu_height=$((monitor_height * 40 / 100))

the first line is the problem, the 'jq' part throws an error when trying to find your monitors height.
test it with hard-coding the value first.
use 'i' to switch to insert mode to add the '#' in front of the first line, this will disable it,
next move the cursor below that line and add a new line to set the monitor_height to fixed height, for example :

 # monitor_height=$(hyprctl monitors -j | jq -r '.[] | select(.focused == true) | .height')
  monitor_height=1280
  menu_height=$((monitor_height * 40 / 100))

press "ESC" key to go from Insert to Normal mode, then press ":" and write wq (and Enter Key) ,this will write the new version to disk and quit.
Now test SUPER+K again. And report back if it works, then it is definitely this line that causes the problem.

if that works you can try to show the exact line 15 the error indicates like this:

  echo "$(hyprctl monitors -j)" | sed -n "15,15 p"

sed limits the output of exactly the line number defined (in case the error is on another line adjust accordingly)

on my system it shows me this (which can be different, depending on your setup):

 "activeWorkspace": {

Ok, I don't know what changed in a system update I just performed, but it is already fixed. Sorry we couldn't pinpoint the reason of the bug, seems gone now!

I was running into the same issue. Updating Omarchy resolved it for me.
