v0.5.0 brings a more stable and reliable experience, better performance, less resource usage and many relevant features for everyone using Try Omarchy.

Features

  • Update Omarchy to 4.0.4 (#289)
  • Omarchy's battery widget, in sync with the Mac's live charging state, AC power, charge limits, and "Managed by macOS" power profile (#220, #252, #298, #300, #315)
  • Smoother trackpad scrolling, including small movements, horizontal scrolling, and momentum (#239)
  • Add experimental passthrough for one USB device, subject to macOS device-access restrictions (#236)
  • Add Ghostty installation on ARM64 through the Terminal menu (#240, #303)
  • Browser GPU acceleration by default (video playback still CPU, but better) (#305)
  • Let Omarchy follow the Mac's time zone through Same as macOS in setup and the time-zone menu, or keep a fixed zone (#290, #299)
  • Configure maximum disk size alongside CPU and RAM, with a 64 GiB default for new settings. Mac storage used only as needed (#246, #296)
  • Skip the launcher and start straight into Omarchy, then reopen Try Omarchy Settings from inside Omarchy. Pause automatic startup for the first VM-update review (#152, #296, #309, #310, #317)
  • Review supported updates before an old VM's first launch with the new app, then choose to update or skip. Preserve your files while applying compatible updates. Still not a full migration path (#193, #308, #317)
  • Show the correct installed Mac app version and add Check for Updates…. Daily startup checks are enabled by default, can be turned off in the settings (#234, #223, #309)
  • Improve the launcher with standard Mac menus and behavior, fixed Launch button, and more reliable window behavior (#187, #296)
  • Return unused VM memory to macOS while keeping the configured RAM available to Omarchy (#243)
  • Improve update notification to be explicit about only updating packages (#304)
  • Unlock 1Password and its connected browser extension with Mac Touch ID after opting in (#182)
  • Restore Chinese, Japanese, and Korean fonts and input-method support, including Traditional Chinese input (#188)
  • Initialize new VMs with the Mac's supported language, while preserving the chosen language in existing VMs (#295)
  • Add a US international keyboard option for typing Portuguese accents on ANSI keyboards (#195)
  • Faster factory resets, with visible progress and clearer confirmation. Fresh VM preparation happens on the next launch and uses less duplicate factory-image storage (#247, #307)
  • Hardware-accelerated Alacritty while retaining macOS 15 support (#176, #242)
  • Improve graphics responsiveness and frame pacing (#197)

Fixes

  • Fix older VMs failing to start after an app upgrade during one-time boot-file preparation (#237)
  • Fix intermittent first-launch failures reporting that safe Mac sleep could not be enabled, with clearer recovery actions and easier retries (#229, #296)
  • Fix a VM startup crash reported on M4 Macs running macOS 26.3 (#277)
  • Reduce audio dropouts during graphics-heavy activity (#254)
  • Address audio playing too fast with some Mac audio devices. Device or sample-rate changes during a session may still require a VM restart (#283)
  • Protect shared Mac folders from a write-caching issue that could corrupt files, including on older VM disks (#287)
  • Fix Command-Space unexpectedly opening Spotlight or Siri instead of reaching Omarchy (#226)
  • Fix misplaced keys on Mac ISO keyboards (#190)
  • Fix supported text-injection tools typing repeated A characters instead of the intended text (#273)
  • Fix clicks landing away from visible controls after resizing and reloading the desktop configuration, while preserving the chosen zoom (#179)
  • Fix the guest clock falling behind after Mac sleep, which could also cause Touch ID authentication to fail (#184)
  • Fix the lock-screen action doing nothing (#272)
  • Fix 1Password installation failing with newer application releases, and repair older stock installers through the VM-update flow (#233, #317)
  • Remove the stale iconless Alacritty entry left in Apps after uninstalling it (#248)
  • Fix Omarchy updates failing because of incompatible graphics packages (#185, #268)
  • Remove incorrect kernel-reboot prompts after updates (#219)
  • Fix restarting with forwarded TCP ports being incorrectly reported as already in use (#269)
  • Preserve the VM's bridged network address across upgrades and disk changes, keeping router reservations working. Add controls to copy or deliberately change the address (#209)
  • Fix browser-detection crashes caused by missing manual-page support (#225)
  • Fix large clipboard selections blocking clipboard sharing (#302)
  • Keep the screensaver working in small VM windows (#301)
  • Retain VM-update results in the selected workspace, show completion or failure in a dialog, and keep manual retries available (#317)

Dev

  • Faster tests and PR checks, with full test and build coverage on macOS 15 and 26 (#282)
  • More reliable builds on memory-constrained systems (#271)
  • Make new releases with build and tags in a single make release command (#318)
  • Refresh compatible package versions and fix runtime build issues (#286, #236, #292)
  • Reuse cached Omarchy source across builds (#297)
  • Add optional startup-crash diagnostics (#278)
  • Add performance profiling and documented measurements (#306)
  • Clarify contribution guidance and templates (#241, #245)
  • Keep development privacy permissions across rebuilds (#297)
  • Clean up obsolete development disks (#307)
  • Include the release version in DMG filenames, while accepting the legacy filename in app update checks (#316)
  • Use one validated migration catalog for the app update review and guest repair list (#317)

New Contributors 🎉

Update and Launch applies supported repairs to compatible existing disks, while keeping customized changes. Back up anything you need before resetting. It does not upgrade Linux packages, replace the kernel, enable Touch ID, or reproduce every change in the bundled image. The bundled Omarchy 4.0.4 image and other factory-only changes require a new or reset disk.

Compatible with Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 15 or newer.
