ESP32 AP mode | TAPO connected on it

Hello,
I’m trying to use your library on an ESP32S3.
But the unit crashes and reboot indefinitely.
Any idea to update the library for ESP32S3?

Thank you for your comment.
I have tested this library only with ESP32-WROOM-32E, but I believe it should work with ESP32-S3.
Could you provide serial monitor outputs to find where the crash occurs?
If everything works correctly, you should see the following outputs.

Thank you for your answer ! I'm back on it.
I tried you example code to control TAPO P100 (I commented light-specific controls lines) from XIAO ESP32S3. It works like a charm, connecting both ESP32 & TAPO on my internet router !

But I would like to use it locally, without any router. I would like to create an AP on my ESP32, and I would like to connect TAPO P100 on it. It looks like your library is not made to be used like this.

Hi, thanks for the detailed investigation and code snippet.

At the moment, this library is not designed to be used in AP-only mode (ESP32 as an access point without a router).
It assumes the ESP32 is connected to a Wi-Fi network as a station (STA), and will fail if WiFi.status() != WL_CONNECTED.

That’s why you see:

TAPO_PROTOCOL: Please connect to WiFi first

followed by a reboot.

Using the ESP32 as a SoftAP and connecting the Tapo device directly is outside the current design scope of this library.

If you’re interested in adding AP-only support (for example by relaxing the Wi-Fi check or avoiding abort()), feel free to open an issue or a pull request.

I am interested in having an update to be able to control TAPO devices by connecting them to an ESP32 in AP mode, without using a Wifi router.
