Ambitions

I want to jot down some things I have floating in my head before I forget them. These are the things I'm working towards with this project.

  • Model international trade - the flow of money and goods crossing nations and how exchange rates can impact those trade and money markets
  • model money exchange as a market - in order to buy oil from country X, needs currency C that only country X and Y has. So need to trade with country Y in order to get enough of C to buy oil from X. It's a bit complicated but I'd like to create a graph structure of these dependencies so an AI can traverse across it to map out the best course of option.
  • model governments as a graph of agents - a democracy is a government with a large constituent base. Of course it could reorganize and restructure laws to shrink the constituency. But each agent has its own goals and will propose amendments and treaties and deals with others, both domestic and foreign. The player, deep state, will need to interfere with these schemes to guide the nation to do what the player wants.
  • an autocracy has less agents with their own goals. Perhaps a player can choose to play as the dictator or as deep state. If dictator, then when the dictator gets over thrown or assassinated the game ends. But if deep state, then player can replace dictator by convincing enough people to overthrow and recruit a replacement from within the population or someone else who is suitable (born there or whatever, depending on national policy).
  • a true communist society would have a much less hierarchical structure and relies less on fiat currency and banking system and more on a distributed network of trust. For example, agents could keep negative account balances with no recourse, could freely buy as much as they want domestically. And those with more resources will share with those with less. Maybe the amount of negative account balance and resource sharing is contingent on the level of trust in that region. So player must keep mutual trust high or risk chaos, or state sponsored banking and capitalism. But trading with others would be hard. Unless they are both true communist nations and they have a high mutual trust (maybe that's part of the perk).

AI

  • a nation may have imperial ambitions, this ambition could be a function of slow decay if the nation was formerly a great power but then lost it. It will still aspire to become great again but with enough time, or a turning over of the government, that aspiration will fizzle out.
  • the notion of a strategic pivot. This would be an emergent phenomenon, not something hardcoded. But if a nation is in a highly contest region or sits on some important resource, then many other nations will try to cure favors or take over it.
  • France flirts with Russia to counter US-German relations/dominance. This is an interesting strategy where a weaker nation, faced with nearby threat, will develop alliance with other great powers to counter balance that threat.
