1.4.25

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Oct 23:46
  • Expanse and Nova are rebuilt. Instead of the same figure drawn in six places, there is one figure in the middle and everything around it is something else: rings of shapes that launch on the beat and travel out past the edges, chains of links threaded outward, and a different ornament in each corner. Nothing on screen is a copy of anything else.
  • Expanse's shapes are geometric now — hexagons, stars and angular links with sharp corners, rather than rounded blobs. Nova keeps its curves, which suit the figure at its centre.
  • All of it is calmer than it was: fewer shapes, moving more slowly, and dimmer, so the figure in the middle leads and the rest sits behind it.
  • The Ambience slider now sets the whole of that outer field rather than just the corner lighting. At zero you get the figure alone on a black screen; at the top, everything brighter than its tuned level.

  • Expanse and Nova no longer repeat themselves. Both fill the screen by drawing the figure in several places at once, and until now every one of those places showed the same thing at the same instant — so what you saw was one shape stamped out a few times rather than something to watch. Each copy now shows a different moment, a fraction of a second apart, so the pattern travels across the screen and a change of shape moves visibly through it.
  • Each copy is drawn in more detail than before, and both styles cost less to draw than they did.

1.4.23

@github-actions github-actions released this 21 Oct 18:46
  • Two new visualizer styles built to fill a fullscreen stage: Expanse and Nova. Scope and Bloom draw one figure in the middle of the screen and leave the corners dark; these take the same two figures and spread them across the whole picture — tiled like wallpaper, radiating outward past the edges, mirrored into all four corners, or orbiting the centre. Nova also throws rings that expand off the screen on the beat. Which arrangement you get changes with the music, on the same rule that already decides when the figure changes shape.
  • Scope and Bloom themselves are untouched. The new styles sit beside them in Settings, so nothing you already had set up has moved.
  • A soft band of spectrum now runs around the very edge of the stage on the two new styles, under the Ambience slider that already dims the corner lighting.
  • Devices that would feed the sound back into itself can no longer be picked. Choosing BlackHole as both the input and the output, or the built-in microphone alongside the built-in speakers, produces a howl that gets louder every pass; those rows are now greyed out in both menus with the reason on hover. If the output you are already on is the one being captured, the output menu says so rather than leaving you to work it out from the noise.
  • The two device menus in the top bar close when you click away from them. Opening one used to leave the other stacked open underneath it.

1.4.22

  • Fixed the album page's track list. Each row was being underlined in three places at three slightly different heights, and the song title floated above its own track number and duration instead of sitting level with them.
  • Album rows are a little tighter now. They carry no artwork, and on most albums every track is credited to the album artist, so each row was holding a single line of text in space meant for two.

1.4.21

@github-actions github-actions released this 14 Oct 16:31
  • Right-click a song anywhere and you get the full menu. Artist pages, album pages, search results, the queue, your listening stats and the DJ suggestions all had songs you could only play — now every one of them offers Add to playlist, Add to queue, Go to album, Go to artist and Copy Spotify link, the same as the main track list always has.
  • Search results used to offer only "Add to queue" on right-click, and album pages a shortened menu of their own. Both now show the same options as everywhere else, and both report it when Spotify refuses an action instead of failing quietly.
  • The menu leaves out whatever would not mean anything where you opened it: no "Go to artist" on an artist's own page, no "Go to album" inside an album, and no "Remove from this playlist" on a list that isn't one.

1.4.20

@github-actions github-actions released this 12 Oct 23:32
  • Fixed the highlighted line of lyrics being hard to read on some albums. When the artwork's colour came back dark — a sleeve of deep greens or browns — the current line ended up fainter than the unhighlighted lines around it, so the one line you were meant to be reading was the dimmest on screen. It is now lightened just enough to read, keeping the album's colour, and only on the albums where it was too dark to begin with. Every built-in palette, and every album whose colour already read well, is untouched.

  • New in Settings: "Install updates automatically". With it on, an update installs itself and the app restarts as soon as nothing is playing — it won't cut off a song, and it tells you what changed when it comes back. Off by default; updates keep asking first as they do now.
  • The notch HUD no longer swallows clicks meant for the window behind it. An open panel claimed the whole strip across the top of the screen, transparent margin included, so a click aimed at a browser tab brought the music player forward instead. Clicking the panel itself no longer brings the app forward either — only its buttons do anything.
  • Album and artist pages are rebuilt. The artwork's colour washes behind the header, albums have a Play button for the whole record, and the column headings stay put as you scroll a long one. Album tracks no longer repeat the album's artist on every row, so a guest credit stands out.
  • Right-click a track and you can go to its artist — from a playlist row, and from inside an album.
  • "Add to playlist" now marks the playlists that already have the song, and lists those first, so you can see where it is before deciding where it goes. The list fills in over a few seconds the first time you open it each session; a playlist it has not read yet is simply unmarked rather than claimed to be missing the song.
  • Artist pages have a Popular section — the artist's top tracks, playable from there, with the full ten behind "Show all". No play counts: Spotify's API does not publish them at any tier, and the number it does publish is a different thing.
  • Update checks ask for less and run twice as often, so a new version reaches you sooner.

  • The notch HUD waits a moment before it opens. Moving the pointer across the notch on the way to a tab or a menu no longer drops the panel on top of what you were reaching for.
  • Smoother opening and closing on the notch HUD. The panel, its artwork and its text now arrive together and settle, instead of landing at four slightly different times and drifting to a stop.

1.4.17

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Oct 19:17
  • Fixed the window emptying out after updating to 1.4.15: the equalizer stretched to fill everything and the visualizer and player controls were pushed off the bottom of the screen.
  • Fixed update checks reporting "Couldn't reach the update server". 1.4.16 published without the file the updater reads, so every check failed.
