@omniharmonic omniharmonic released this 27 Oct 17:40

Video calls and a recording studio you host on your own Mac. p2p.video is an open-source alternative to Google Meet and Riverside.fm: guests join from a link in their browser, and every participant is recorded locally, on their own device, at full quality. No accounts, no subscriptions, no cloud.

Download

p2p.video-1.0.0-arm64.dmg: Apple Silicon Macs, macOS 14 or later. Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Open the disk image, drag p2p.video to Applications, and follow the setup guide. Guests need nothing but a browser (Chrome recommended; Safari and Firefox work).

What's in 1.0

  • Calls: links that work without an install, reusable rooms with a waiting room, group calls, chat, reactions, raise hand, screen share, layouts, background blur, live captions recognized on your Mac, keyboard shortcuts, and scheduling with calendar invites.
  • Studio: one isolated camera + microphone track per person, recorded on their own device independently of call quality (optional uncompressed audio), uploaded while you talk and recovered after a crash or closed tab, phone as an extra camera, teleprompter, branding and lower thirds, solo recording links, and a producer role.
  • After the call: files for DaVinci Resolve, Premiere and Final Cut, original files right away, transcripts with exact speaker names (on-device), and hand-offs to Minutes, Parachute and an agentic video editor.
  • Livestream to YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, LinkedIn or any RTMP(S) server.
  • Mac app: a menu bar app that runs the host, a guided Tailscale setup for private or public meeting links, calendar reminders, and an in-app call window.

Good to know

  • Hosting needs Tailscale (free for personal use). Guests don't need it.
  • This is a 1.0. Recording and upload were proven on real Macs and an iPhone; many newer features have so far been verified with automated browser tests and simulated devices. Please report anything that breaks.
  • iPhone and iPad guests use Safari today; a native iOS companion app is next (plan).
  • The app bundles an LGPL build of FFmpeg 9.0.2 with its source; see THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md.
