ArtLight 1.5.7

Choose a tag to compare

@onaiaku onaiaku released this 15 Oct 15:15

ArtLight 1.5.7 - 2026-10-15

Developed by onaiaku & Rias.

Added

  • The Linux installer offers the reboot it asks for. When a step leaves the machine needing a reboot, the installer now says so and reboots on Enter, instead of printing the step and leaving you to do it yourself. Anything other than Enter leaves the machine alone.

Fixed

  • Updating ArtLight on Linux can no longer leave the graphics card unable to start. The display driver could hold the card in a state the next boot was unable to recover from, so the GPU failed to initialise and the machine fell back to integrated graphics until it was restarted again.
  • The ArtLight package repository works on a first install. Setting it up wrote the repository into the package manager's configuration but never fetched its database, so the install fell back to a downloaded package and the repository sat there updating nothing.
  • On systems with Secure Boot, the display driver is now signed with a key the firmware trusts. The signing key was never offered to the machine, so the driver could not be trusted even when it was signed.

Notes

  • Windows Defender may flag the download as unsafe; Windows does not know what ArtLight is yet.
  • Code signing via SignPath Foundation is being set up. Until the first signed build, verify downloads by building from source or checking CI artifacts against this repository.

ArtLight 1.5.6

@onaiaku onaiaku released this 14 Oct 23:23

ArtLight 1.5.6 - 2026-10-14

Developed by onaiaku & Rias.

Added

  • ArtLight now installs on Fedora. Fedora 43 and 44 are supported from our own repository, so there is no longer any need to build the server yourself to run it there. Enable it once with sudo dnf copr enable onaiaku/artlight, then sudo dnf install artlight as usual. The Windows installer and the Arch package are published for this release exactly as they were before.

Fixed

  • The display comes back correctly once a stream ends. On Linux the restore step could refuse the display it had been handed instead of accepting it, which left the desktop in the wrong state after a session finished until it was set up again by hand.
  • A controller module that is installed and working is no longer reported as missing. The DualSense module check on Linux read a healthy module as unavailable, which sent people looking for a fault that was not there.

Notes

  • Windows Defender may flag the download as unsafe; Windows does not know what ArtLight is yet.
  • Code signing via SignPath Foundation is being set up. Until the first signed build, verify downloads by building from source or checking CI artifacts against this repository.

ArtLight 1.5.5

@onaiaku onaiaku released this 13 Oct 21:10

ArtLight 1.5.5 - 2026-10-13

Developed by onaiaku & Rias.

Added

  • Ticking a permission box in the Web UI saves it straight away. Changing a client's View or Launch permission used to mean finding the Save button at the bottom of the form; a single on/off setting now saves the moment you tick it. The rest of that form still uses Save and Cancel together.

Fixed

  • Control's Sessions page no longer fails and no longer takes your saved clients with it. A machine with two games installed under the same name made Control fail while it drew the session list, and the failure left nothing behind to explain it. Call of Duty ships separately from both Xbox and Steam, so this was easy to hit. Repeated names are handled now, and the session list opens normally.
  • Control leaves a log behind if it ever goes down again. A crash used to close the app with no record anywhere, so there was nothing to send with a report.
  • Your desktop wallpaper is no longer recorded as the game you played. Wallpaper Engine runs the whole time a desktop stream is open, and it was being credited as the game that was played - in the session list, on the last-stream card and on your phone. It is not tracked as a game at all now, and sessions that already named it have been corrected to show no game detected.

Notes

  • Windows Defender may flag the download as unsafe; Windows does not know what ArtLight is yet.
  • Code signing via SignPath Foundation is being set up. Until the first signed build, verify downloads by building from source or checking CI artifacts against this repository.

ArtLight 1.5.4

@onaiaku onaiaku released this 10 Oct 23:27

ArtLight 1.5.4 - 2026-10-11

Developed by onaiaku & Rias.

Fixed

  • A second device now really does see what the host is streaming. 1.5.3 promised this and did not deliver it: opening ArtMoon on another device while a host was streaming Desktop still showed that machine as free, with no STREAMING badge and no Resume or Stop. Any device allowed to view a host is now told what that host is doing, and shows the running stream with its Resume and Stop buttons.

Notes

  • Windows Defender may flag the download as unsafe; Windows does not know what ArtLight is yet.
  • Code signing via SignPath Foundation is being set up. Until the first signed build, verify downloads by building from source or checking CI artifacts against this repository.

ArtLight 1.5.3

@onaiaku onaiaku released this 10 Oct 20:49

ArtLight 1.5.3 - 2026-10-10

Added

  • ArtLight's own virtual gamepad driver now installs. The driver has shipped since 1.5.1 and never once installed, because a driver package installs only when its catalogue is signed and ours was not signed in a way Windows would accept. The package now carries its own signing certificate and the installer trusts it, so the driver installs on a clean machine and the virtual controller works without anything else being present.

Fixed

  • Automatic uses ArtLight's own driver first when a machine has both it and ViGEmBus. ViGEmBus is retired upstream (end of life, late 2023), so it is the fallback now rather than the first choice.
  • ViGEmBus is no longer offered or bundled by the installer.
  • A second device now sees what the host is actually streaming. If a PC is already streaming Desktop, opening ArtMoon on another device now shows that stream — the running app, the STREAMING badge, and Resume and Stop — instead of showing the machine as idle. Any paired device you open sees what the host is really doing.

Notes

  • A ViGEmBus already on a machine is not removed. ArtLight simply no longer installs or offers it, and prefers its own driver wherever that driver is present.
  • Windows Defender may flag the download as unsafe; Windows does not know what ArtLight is yet.
  • Code signing via SignPath Foundation is being set up. Until the first signed build, verify downloads by building from source or checking CI artifacts against this repository.

ArtLight 1.5.0

@onaiaku onaiaku released this 08 Oct 16:05

ArtLight 1.5.0 - 2026-10-04

Developed by onaiaku & Rias.

Added

  • USB device sharing. A keyboard, mouse or controller plugged into the PC you are streaming from can be moved onto this PC for the length of a session, and handed back when the session ends. The machine you stream from decides which of its devices are offered, and only at the moment somebody there chooses to share one. This PC takes what is offered by default; turn it off in the Web UI under Settings → Input → Client input.
  • The USB/IP client is installed for you. On Windows it comes bundled in this installer behind a tick box, and is removed again when ArtLight is uninstalled. On Linux the package installs the privileged helper and arranges for the vhci-hcd kernel module to load, so a device moved over has somewhere to appear.

Fixed

  • Devices are given back on every way a session can end — a clean stop, a crash, or a stop racing a start — instead of only on a clean stop.
  • A device that was already attached before the session started is left alone, rather than being released along with the session's own.
  • The Linux package asked for a dependency that does not exist on Arch (usbip-utils), so the install could not resolve. It is usbip.
  • The Windows input service could never create its named pipe. PIPE_REJECT_REMOTE_CLIENTS was passed in the wrong argument to CreateNamedPipeW, so every call failed with ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER and the pipe never existed.
  • Toggling a device in the Web UI now says so when the request was refused, instead of silently doing nothing.

Notes

  • Windows Defender may flag the download as unsafe; Windows does not know what ArtLight is yet.
  • Code signing via SignPath Foundation is being set up. Until the first signed build, verify downloads by building from source or checking CI artifacts against this repository.

ArtLight 1.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@onaiaku onaiaku released this 01 Oct 22:19

ArtLight 1.4.0 - 2026-10-01

Developed by onaiaku & Rias.

Added

  • PyroWave, a GPU wavelet codec with very low encode and decode latency. Frames are independent, so losing one does not require a new keyframe. Supports SDR and HDR, 8-bit and 10-bit colour, and 4:2:0 and 4:4:4 profiles where the GPU and capture path allow. It needs a fast wired LAN with hundreds of Mbps available. H.264, HEVC and AV1 streaming are unchanged and still there.
  • ArtLight Server's own virtual gamepad driver. Xbox Series, Xbox One, DualSense, DualShock 4 and Switch Pro emulation without ViGEmBus and without any licence or licence key. Rumble, impulse triggers, touchpad, motion sensors, battery reporting, lightbar and adaptive triggers are supported where the selected profile, client and game support them. The Windows installer offers it as an option, on by default; select vhf in the Web UI for automatic controller selection.
  • Remote Monitor and Remote Input. Launch Remote Monitor from Moonlight on another device to turn it into an additional, independently streamed display beside your main session, up to four clients. Remote Input attaches a client for control with no video.
  • ArtLight Server on Linux. Arch Linux and CachyOS are supported, with an install script and a package. The virtual display driver builds as a kernel module for the kernel you are running, and the systemd units, udev rules and uinput rules are installed for you. Re-running the installer is safe — it only installs what is missing — and it tells you whether a reboot is needed.
  • A changelog panel in the Web UI, so you can see what changed without leaving the dashboard.

Changed

  • The v2 Web UI is now the default interface.
  • VRR capture is smoother. Windows Graphics Capture timing now follows game presentation more closely, including uneven callbacks. VRR playback needs a Moonlight client that requests VRR pacing — that request automatically selects a fixed 1000 Hz virtual-display mode, so newly presented frames are captured promptly without raising the stream frame rate.

Fixed

  • Remote Monitor and Remote Input sessions are preserved when games end, while the game's virtual displays and runtime settings are released.
  • Stale virtual gamepad reports no longer replay released buttons and triggers.
  • Installer actions stay reachable on smaller Windows screens, and WebRTC source cleanup is protected from drive-root paths.
  • Steam artwork synchronisation works again when a valid PNG does not need transcoding.

Notes

  • Control is bumped to 1.4.0 in lockstep so Server and Control report the same version. Control's own code is unchanged in this release.
  • Windows Defender may flag the download as unsafe; Windows does not know what ArtLight is yet.
  • Code signing via SignPath Foundation is being set up. Until the first signed build, verify downloads by building from source or checking CI artifacts against this repository.

1.3.1

Choose a tag to compare

@onaiaku onaiaku released this 27 Sep 22:42

ArtLight 1.3.1 - 2026-09-27

Developed by onaiaku & Rias.

Added

  • Remote power — sleep, hibernate or restart the host from the dashboard. Control asks the host what it can do and offers exactly those options, so a machine can be shut down or brought back without walking to it. What is supported is reported by the host itself, not assumed by the dashboard.
  • Shared clipboard. Text copied on the host pastes on the client and the other way round while you stream, over a key that lasts one stream and is discarded at the end. Off until you turn it on, and the host can refuse from its own switch.
  • Start with Windows now has three modes — Off, Normal and Priority. Priority registers a logon task rather than a plain startup entry, so Control is up and listening before anything else on the machine.

Changed

  • Session grading reworked, with a clock axis on the charts. Sessions are split at reconnects and graded per segment instead of as one run, so a mid-session blip no longer colours the whole session.
  • The "Excellent" grade now requires a 0.6 frame, up from 0.5.

Fixed

  • The server could fail to start at all on some machines. Startup could die inside a step it did not need, before the server reached any of its own code — so the process never came up and the log ended without saying why. The Windows build is now pinned to the runtime it was tested against, so the same change cannot creep back in silently. If a server of yours stopped starting and nothing in the log explained it, this is that fix.
  • Clipboard text could arrive and be thrown away. The host and the client were labelling each clipboard payload differently, so every transfer was discarded in silence. Both sides now agree on the label and text moves both ways while streaming.
  • Sessions could stay marked live after they had ended. Closure now watches the stream's own sockets instead of matching text in the log, which is what was fooling it.
  • VRAM was double-counted — shared graphics memory was being added to the dedicated figure, so the dashboard over-reported usage.
  • One bad frame no longer decides a long session. A single stall could drag a whole session's grade down regardless of how the rest of it ran.

Notes

  • Control is bumped to 1.3.1 in lockstep so Server and Control report the same version.
  • This release carries everything since 1.2.2. There was no 1.3.0 download.
  • Windows Defender may flag the download as unsafe, Windows doesn't know what ArtLight is yet
  • Code signing via SignPath Foundation is being set up; until the first signed build, verify downloads by building from source or checking CI artifacts against this repository.

ArtLight 1.2.2

Choose a tag to compare

@onaiaku onaiaku released this 08 Sep 18:41

ArtLight 1.2.2 - 2026-09-08

Developed by onaiaku & Rias.

Changed

  • ArtLight Control now starts with Windows by default. The Control installer adds the autostart entry during setup (launching minimized to the system tray, never opening a window at boot). The setup wizard shows a "Start ArtLight Control when Windows starts" option — untick it if you'd rather launch manually, and your choice is remembered on future upgrades. The in-app Settings toggle still works exactly as before, and uninstalling removes the entry.

Fixed

  • Release downloads are the real combined installer again. 1.2.0 and 1.2.1 shipped a Control-only installer under the ArtLight.Setup.exe name because the release pipeline skipped its packaging step. The pipeline now always builds the full package — server MSI with Control chained inside — so one download installs everything.

Notes

  • Control is bumped to 1.2.2 in lockstep so Server and Control report the same version.
  • Windows Defender may flag the download as unsafe, Windows doesn't know what ArtLight is yet
  • Code signing via SignPath Foundation is being set up; until the first signed build, verify downloads by building from source or checking CI artifacts against this repository.

ArtLight 1.2.1

Choose a tag to compare

@onaiaku onaiaku released this 08 Sep 15:13

ArtLight 1.2.1 - 2026-09-08

Fixed

  • Dashboard changelog now stays current without manual refreshes. The Overview changelog panel was hitting GitHub's unauthenticated API rate limit (60 requests/hour, shared across every visit and device), which is why the release list usually only appeared after hitting Refresh. GitHub release data is now cached locally for 30 minutes, so the panel populates on load instead of silently falling back to the bundled copy.

Added

  • Download button for new builds. When a newer ArtLight release is available, the changelog panel now shows an "Update available" banner with a direct Download latest build button (straight to the installer asset) and a link to the release page — no more detour through GitHub to fetch the installer. The banner only appears when the installed version is actually behind.
  • Manual refresh always hits GitHub live. The Refresh button in the changelog panel bypasses the new cache, so checking for a fresh release is always a real check.

Notes

  • Windows Defender may flag the download as unsafe, Windows doesn't know what ArtLight is yet
  • Code signing via SignPath Foundation is being set up; until the first signed build, verify downloads by building from source or checking CI artifacts against this repository.
