Missing _gmtime64_s in library msvcrt.dll

_gmtime64_s not found in library dynamic linked msvcrt.dll

can you make you next version resolve this problem !!
you can put this function in your msvcrt-ruby210.dll and load it from this file not from windows dll
its just in this version when i try older version no problem but can't downloads some gem !!

@elmersaid both Ruby 2.0 and 2.1 versions uses mingw-w64 compiler toolchain.

This toolchain seems to have some limitations and issues around the functions is expecting to find in a system provided library like msvcrt.dll

You can workaround that by building RubyInstaller yourself, as the process is almost automated.

We haven't introduce a change in the compiler toolchain (DevKit) for the reasons described in the linked issue.

People that are using (still) XP, are stucked with ruby 2.0 due to this problem.
I've resolved the issue building RubyInstaller directly in windows XP. It seems that the toolchain detects that is running in a machine that has no _gmtime64_s in msvcrt.dll, and creates a exe that does not call this function.
I've read that RubyInstaller is built using Windows7 (I think). I know that it's not a good idea to build ruby on a operating system with no support, but I am wondering if is there any way of providing XP installable versions, built with XP.

@ferfebles Do you have step-by-step guide to "how to build Rubyinstaller on XP(32b) and what you need (dependencies)?"? I have been trying to build it for hours if not a day without success. I have eliminated a few errors by 1) installing mingw64-32 devkit from rubyinstaller site 2) moving "rubyinstaller zip"/ruby into path that has not spaces 3) compiling on administrator

@nedzadarek @ferfebles everything to build RubyInstaller is inside RubyInstaller.

You should take a look to the README, perhaps play with the different DevKits (rake devkit:ls) and see which one fits better.

I might also add newer DevKits (4.9.2 soon) for you to test.

Sorry for this late post. I was able to build ruby2.1 in windows XP using https://github.com/oneclick/rubyinstaller as Luis said (great job, its like having ports in windows!).

But I got stuck with building the installer. Something about needed dependencies.

I'm trying to build it again in XP. But having problems when compiling socket with getaddrinfo conflicting types:

I built 2.1 in WinXP, but had to disable IPv6 :-(

I disabled IPv6 directly by editting "C:\rubyinstaller\sandbox\ruby_2_1\ext\socket\extconf.rb" and commenting lines 457-458. You have to edit the file, while running "rake ruby21" task, because the first thing that the rake task do is extracting the ruby source. You wait until rake ends processing the line:

"C:/rubyinstaller/sandbox/extract_utils/basic-bsdtar.exe" -xf "C:/rubyinstaller/downloads/ruby-2.1.5.tar.bz2" > NUL 2>&1

And then, edit the file "C:\rubyinstaller\sandbox\ruby_2_1\ext\socket\extconf.rb" and comment the two lines inside the if:

If the system returns any error while compiling, just try it again. I received an error the first time I've compiled with the IPv6 disabled, but worked the second time.

I didn't do this the last time I compiled ruby. I'm thinking that I compiled the 2.0 version, not 2.1 :-(

I don't like this solution either. I'm without IPv6 support, and I don't know if this could have any impact in other dll's or gems outside socket.

I've tested the ruby installer created by this method...

As you can see, I didn't build without IPv6 support, but without the socket library :-(

I can compile and run ruby 2.1 in windows XP without the _gmtime64_s error, but this built is useless as I can not use the network 😞.
