onWatch 2.14.13 brings the Windows tray up to the macOS menubar: a native quick view, a sharp tray icon, and start at login with restart after a crash.
Windows: native quick view
The quick view used to open as a Microsoft Edge app window, with a title bar, a taskbar button, a fixed 360x680 size and a cold browser start on every click. It now opens as a borderless WebView2 popup anchored next to the tray:
- It fits its content and scales with each monitor's DPI.
- It has rounded corners on Windows 11 and stays warm between opens.
- A second click, a click outside, Esc or the close button dismisses it.
- Links open in your default browser.
If the WebView2 runtime is missing, or ONWATCH_QUICKVIEW_BROWSER is set, the Edge app window is still used as a fallback.
Windows: sharp tray icon and menu
- The tray badge is drawn at the exact tray icon size for your display scaling, with anti-aliased digits. It used to be a 32 px icon squeezed into a 16-24 px slot.
- The companion is per-monitor DPI aware, so the menu is no longer blurry at 125% and above.
- Tray menus follow the dark theme.
- Each provider row in the tray menu has a status dot (Windows and Linux).
Windows: start at login
onwatch service install, uninstall and status now work on Windows. They register a per-user Task Scheduler task with no admin rights needed. The task:
- starts onWatch at logon without flashing a window
- restarts it 10 seconds after a crash, backing off to 5 minutes
onwatch stop stays stopped until your next login. onwatch update and dashboard updates restart through the task, so the new binary stays supervised. install.ps1 offers auto-start and re-registers an existing task on upgrade. See the new Start at Login section in docs/WINDOWS_SETUP.md.
Fixes
- The tray now appears when onWatch is started by Task Scheduler, which does not set
SESSIONNAME. - Taking over from a running instance on Windows waits for the old process to exit instead of failing with "Only one usage of each socket address".
Upgrading
onwatch update, or re-run the installer. On Windows, run onwatch service install (or re-run install.ps1) to turn on start at login.
The VS Code extension is unchanged in this release. It shares the daemon's version number, so 2.14.13 is a republish of the same extension.
