preFlight Changelog

v1.4.1 - A maintenance / continuation release for v1.4.0

Preview Performance Boost

  • If you have a decent GPU, try cranking up lighting to Full (shadows + AO) and Supersampling to 2x under Preferences > Performance!
  • Large previews now pan, zoom and orbit smoothly and at any layer range. The Preview draws only the toolpaths the camera can see
    • On a 31 million segment test print, frames that took 170 to 670 ms now take 27 to 98 ms, and a step of the layer slider went from over 1 second to about 50 ms
  • The window stays responsive while a large preview loads. The longest freeze on that same print went from 15 seconds to under 1
    • The progress bar keeps moving to 100% instead of pausing at 84%, and Cancel works the whole way
  • Full lighting with 2x supersampling renders more than 3 times faster

Sidebar with Multiple Extruders

  • The Printer panel now shows a single Extruders section with a numbered selector strip instead of stacking sections per extruder
    • Each cell shows the extruder's filament color, and a dot to represent differences from the saved preset
    • Pinned setting now applies to every extruder
  • With more than 3 extruders, the nozzle diameter and filament rows fold into a numbered 3-row list that scrolls. Click the chevron on the title to show them all
  • Printers are now limited to 24 extruders. A project, config or G-code file with more loads with the first 24 and a warning
  • Lowering the extruder count resets everything assigned to a removed extruder (objects, parts, height ranges and the print's own extruder settings) to its default. Previously these all printed with extruder 1
  • The Overrides panel opens and switches categories without a pause. The first open on an 8-extruder printer took 2+ seconds
  • Fixed a crash on Windows with many extruders, most often on displays scaled above 100%. The Sidebar now uses a fraction of the window resources it did

Bug Fixes / Other tweaks

  • Fixed preFlight not starting on Windows 11 with Smart App Control turned on ("Bad Image", tbbmalloc_proxy.dll) (#291)
    • preFlight now falls back to the Windows heap whenever tbbmalloc can't be loaded, and Help > System Info shows which allocator is in use
  • Fixed MSAA having no effect, which left edges jagged and layer-line moire worse than in v1.3 (#289)
    • New preference "Smooth layer lines" (Preferences > Performance, on by default) filters the remaining moire in the Preview
    • An MSAA level the display doesn't offer steps down to the highest one it does instead of turning MSAA off
    • Render settings that crash a session are lowered one step at the next start, with a notification
  • Fixed spiral vase prints missing a band of layers where a section thinner than two beads interrupted the spiral. The spiral now continues through thin sections and ramps down wherever it ends
  • Undo and redo now step through edits only. Selecting objects no longer adds undo steps
  • Edit menu items such as Undo, Redo, Delete All and Paste are greyed out when unavailable
  • Fixed menu clicks reaching whatever was under the menu, and an object added from the bed's right-click menu orbiting the camera on its first drag
  • Fixed Sidebar section headers not collapsing when clicked on macOS
  • Projects saved by other slicers now load their color changes, tool changes, pauses, custom G-code, height range modifiers, wipe tower position and combined XY shrinkage compensation
  • The Speed and Actual speed legends in the Preview now use ten evenly spaced ranges, so a color shows how fast a move is rather than how many moves share its speed (#282)
  • With dynamic overhang speeds on, walls now print at exactly the speeds entered. Supported walls and the overhang speed settings were rounded, so 25 mm/s printed as 26 mm/s
  • The NVIDIA Threaded Optimization workaround now covers preFlight-console.exe and preFlight-gcodeviewer.exe
  • The width warning breadcrumb now reports the width to three decimals
