OpenPdfEdit v1.0.1-rc1
1.0.1-rc1 — the task: /app/ SEO
The web app's page now carries an
and ~400 words in its served HTML,
a descriptive title, og tags, and no second sitemap. The shared empty
state scrolls instead of squeezing its button.
OpenPdfEdit v1.0.0
OpenPdfEdit 1.0.0
A local-first PDF editor: your documents are opened, edited and saved on
your own machine, and nothing is uploaded.
Downloads
- macOS (Apple Silicon): the .dmg
- Windows: the .exe installer
- Chrome and Edge: openpdfedit-dist.zip — unzip, then chrome://extensions,
Developer mode, Load unpacked. Chrome 103+.
In this release
- Eight languages across the app, the extension and the store listing.
- In-app updates on macOS and Windows: an installed copy checks on launch,
offers what is new, and installs a signed package. This is the first
release marked Latest, so it is the first one an installed copy can
actually update itself to. - The update popup closes on Escape and on a click outside it.
- Edit text, images, pages and annotations; redact; fill and flatten forms;
OCR; merge, split and compress; sign; protect with a password.
The macOS build is ad-hoc signed rather than notarized: on first open use
right-click → Open, or System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.
OpenPdfEdit v0.1.11-rc4
Release candidate 4 for 0.1.11
The update popup closes on Escape and on an outside click. Its
only exit had been clicking its own icon again, and on a build whose
update check fails that left an error stuck over the document.
OpenPdfEdit v0.1.11-rc3
Release candidate 3 for 0.1.11.
the task / the task — the interface speaks eight languages: English, 简体中文,
繁體中文, 日本語, 한국어, Deutsch, Español, Português. A picker sits top
right, each language named in its own script, applying at once and
remembered. Traditional Chinese is a separate catalogue rather than a
character conversion of Simplified: 檔案/儲存/復原 differ in vocabulary,
not script.
Also in this build: the web app's move to openpdfedit.com/app is
finished. externally_connectable still named the old origin, which is
what causes chrome.runtime to be injected into a page at all — so the
login page could not hand a finished session back to the extension.
Extension sign-in was broken against the migrated web app; it works now.
And the e2e suite serves its own web app on its own port, instead of
depending on a hand-started server that another product also binds.
OpenPdfEdit v0.1.11-rc2
Release candidate 2 for 0.1.11.
the task — the app can update itself. A Check for updates button beside
Account, a quiet check after launch, release notes, and update-and-
restart. Updates are signed; the app installs nothing it cannot prove
came from us. This also takes most of the sting out of the task: someone
updating from inside the app never touches an installer.
the task — an iPhone can open a PDF again. Every browser on iOS is
WebKit, which is why Safari and Chrome failed together. Opening there
goes through a file input, and a pick was called cancelled if it had
not completed within 500ms of the sheet closing — a PDF in iCloud Drive
downloads first, so real picks were routinely discarded.
the task — printing prints the document, not the editor.
the task — a page wider than the window can be scrolled sideways.
Also: Firefox and Safari get a working Recent list, by keeping the
document in the browser's private storage where those browsers cannot
keep a file handle.
OpenPdfEdit v0.1.11-rc1
Release candidate.
- Every right-rail panel (Signatures, Comments, Pages, Form fields, Contents, Results) can now be closed from its own header.
- Re-picking an already-selected tool reopens the panel it owns, instead of doing nothing.
