openOMSI 0.3.32
Pre-releaseopenOMSI 0.3.32
Beta, for testing. The launcher keeps players on the stable release; this build is for anyone who wants to try what comes next. Report what breaks in an issue, with the version. openOMSI needs an original OMSI 2 installation to run; it contains no game content.
In short
The departure displays at the stops show their buses again, high-quality passengers no longer fill 6-8 GB graphics cards after a few minutes, and a street lamp hidden behind a house no longer darkens the whole picture at night. Timetable buses appear when their tour runs as in OMSI 2, articulated buses steer their rear axle, VR headsets that stayed black now show the game, and a force-feedback wheel no longer pulls itself to the centre when the bus stands still. Plus complete Catalan and Spanish, new German texts, and plugins that can choose the passengers' tickets.
Graphics
- Departure displays at the stops show their buses again: since 0.2.39, boards such as HafenCity Hamburg's HVV displays showed the stop name but no lines, destinations or times, and other scripted scenery near the camera could lose its texts, sounds and animations (#2737, @thibautgnt).
- High-quality passengers take a third of the graphics memory, so cards with 6-8 GB no longer run out after a few minutes (#2711, @thibautgnt).
- Enhanced at night: a street lamp hidden behind a house, a tree or the ground no longer darkens the whole picture (#2659, @thibautgnt).
- VR: headsets that stayed black (PICO Neo3 Link with SteamVR) now show the game, even without input focus (#2589, @Klyntch).
- Buses whose display fonts share one bitmap decode it once instead of once per font (#2730, @isaacsa2).
- The texture cache keeps its new entries on Linux (#2704, @thibautgnt).
Traffic, vehicles and controls
From the 14 October triage, with Omsi.exe's own behaviour as the reference (#2657, @turbo-devv):
- Timetable buses appear when their tour runs: the first trip of a tour comes at its departure instead of a quarter of an hour early, and a tour under way has its bus waiting at its first stop between trips.
- An AI bus that served a stop from behind the bus in front pulls up and boards again once the stop is free; a traffic light's approach request follows the indicator.
- Articulated buses: the steered rear axle steers and reaches the scripts, and the rear section's driver camera comes after the front's cab views.
- The driver's eye moves with the seat's suspension; a vehicle key in keyboard.cfg only overrides a game shortcut where the bus uses it.
- Windows: Num4 + Left held together no longer leave the steering stuck; DirectInput and Linux controller axes are read from their real range.
- Scenery sounds carry as far as their range allows (up to 2 km) and fade out instead of stopping at 300 m; the paper timetable keeps Courier New's spacing.
- Force feedback: the wheel no longer pulls itself to the centre while the bus is stopped; the self-aligning force comes back as it moves (#2185, @YanisK33).
Plugins
- Plugins can see and choose the ticket each passenger buys (reduced fares, passes...), with two Lua examples; without a plugin nothing changes (#2708, @Spindlerkoo).
Online play
- Server admin commands are read by the session and carried out by the game; a host's own game now also carries out
tell,dutyandduty-off, and a kick passes its reason on (#2725, @fsalexandre). - Bus downloads through the web gateway have a ceiling of their own, so they can no longer crowd out players joining (#2663, @fsalexandre).
Launcher
- The launcher is a little less zoomed in, and grows more gently on big screens (#2733, @thibautgnt).
Languages
- Catalan for the whole 0.3 interface (#2734, @juanjopuntcat).
- Spanish completed and corrected (#2746, @juanjopuntcat).
- German for the new texts (#1987, @flows-c).
Under the hood
Thank you
- @turbo-devv, for a whole triage day of fixes checked against Omsi.exe itself: timetables, articulated buses, cameras, controls and scenery sounds.
- @juanjopuntcat, for bringing two languages fully up to date in one day: Catalan and Spanish players get the whole 0.3 interface.
- @Klyntch, for tracking down the black VR headset and fixing it the way the OpenXR spec says.
- @Spindlerkoo, for the ticket hook: plugin authors can now build fare systems, and it costs nothing without a plugin.
- @YanisK33, for a wheel that finally rests when the bus does.
- @fsalexandre, for moving multiplayer out of the game's glue code command by command, and the gateway ceiling.
- @flows-c, for the German texts (and "Umschalt" instead of "Shift").
- @isaacsa2, for the shared font bitmaps and for reviewing nearly every pull request in this release.
And thanks to everyone who tests the betas and reports what breaks: this is how a beta becomes a good stable release.
