What issue are you seeing?
Summary
In the Codex desktop app on Windows, Korean/CJK text appears visually too heavy in dark theme compared with the Codex VS Code extension. During long sessions this causes noticeable eye strain.
What I see
- In the Codex desktop app dark theme, Korean text looks much bolder/heavier than expected.
- The same Korean text in the Codex VS Code extension appears thin/light and is much more comfortable to read.
- Light theme in the desktop app is noticeably easier on the eyes, even though I normally prefer dark themes.
Impact
The Codex desktop app is very useful as a command center for managing multiple projects and agent sessions, but the current Korean text rendering in dark theme makes long sessions uncomfortable.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Open the Codex desktop app on Windows.
- Switch the app to dark theme.
- Use Korean/CJK text in a conversation or long agent session.
- Compare the same or similar Korean text in the Codex VS Code extension.
- Observe that Korean text in the desktop app dark theme appears much heavier/bolder, while the VS Code extension renders Korean text thin/light and easier to read.
What is the expected behavior?
Korean/CJK text should be comfortable to read in dark theme, with visual weight comparable to the Codex VS Code extension.
Possible improvements:
- Add font family and/or font weight controls.
- Use a lighter CJK fallback font in dark theme.
- Adjust CJK text rendering, contrast, or antialiasing behavior in the desktop app.
Additional information
This may be related to CJK font fallback, antialiasing, contrast, or dark-theme text rendering on Windows.
The issue is much less noticeable in light theme and in the Codex VS Code extension, where Korean text appears thin/light.
