Blender Connector / MCP-style integration for Codex #22149

What variant of Codex are you using?

App, IDE Extension

What feature would you like to see?

Hi OpenAI team,

I recently saw Anthropic introduce the Blender Connector for Claude, which allows Claude to interact directly with Blender for scene inspection, object manipulation, scripting, and iterative creative workflows.

I’m wondering whether Codex (or the broader OpenAI coding-agent ecosystem) has plans to support a similar capability.

A Blender integration for Codex could enable workflows such as:

  • Reading and understanding Blender scene structures
  • Generating and modifying Python scripts for Blender
  • Iterative 3D asset creation and editing
  • Material / lighting / animation automation
  • Conversational control of Blender through an agent interface
  • Tool-calling workflows via MCP or similar protocols

This feels especially valuable because Blender already has a strong Python API and is widely used in:

  • game development
  • motion graphics
  • VFX
  • architectural visualization
  • AI-assisted 3D content generation

Some questions:

  1. Are there any plans for official Blender integration support?
  2. Would MCP-style tool connectivity be the recommended direction?
  3. Could Codex eventually support persistent bidirectional tool sessions with desktop creative software like Blender?

I think this would be a very compelling use case for OpenAI coding agents.

Thanks.
