Welcome

Welcome to the OCP Server Base System Architecture (SBSA) for Arm-based Servers Workstream.

This workstream is a closed CLA Workstream under OCP Server Project

Charter

Mission Statement

The workstream will develop and publish the Server Base System Architecture (SBSA) for Arm-based Servers. The specification will establish a common baseline hardware system architecture that server operating systems, hypervisors, firmware, and platform software can rely on, while incorporating OCP community requirements, deployment experience, and contributed requirements for cloud, hyperscale, enterprise, and edge server usages.

Goals

  • Establish SBSA as an OCP Server Project baseline architecture specification for Arm-based servers, aligned with the Arm 64-bit architecture and the Arm Base System Architecture (BSA).
  • Align Arm Server architectural requirements with appropriate OCP expectations for RAS, Debug, security or other aligned contributions.
  • Coordinate with relevant OCP projects and workstreams where SBSA requirements intersect adjacent areas
  • Working within the OCP community, define architectural requirements and rationales, along with recommendations and informative statements for Server OS install, boot, and functionality.
  • Provide consistent targets for software developers, driving the alignment of Arm-based server market capabilities forward over time.

Scope

The workstream is focused on defining and evolving baseline system architecture requirements for Arm-based servers. This includes the platform requirements needed for server OS install, boot, and functionality, including requirements for core SoC components such as Processing Elements (PEs), System MMU, GIC, as well as PCIe and CXL integration rules, and other server platform capabilities.

Out of scope

The workstream will not cover:

  • Form-factor, mechanical, rack, or chassis specifications
  • Firmware requirements
  • Server manageability requirements
