An MIT-licensed event inbox for coding agents. Create a public callback URL, receive HTTP/email/DNS events, inspect them through MCP, and forward them to a local handler.

This is the first native Openhook beta release. It runs its own capture servers and SQLite store. Free self-hosting does not require an Openhook account or a payment provider.

Try one callback

Download first_callback.py below and run:

python3 first_callback.py

It uses only Python's standard library: creates a disposable inbox on openhook.dev, sends a real callback, verifies its original bytes, and deletes its inbox and payload. It does not print the private token. Minimal activity metadata remains after deletion.

Run your own server

Download and extract the source distribution, then use uv from its directory:

uv sync
uv run openhook --http
python3 examples/first_callback.py --url http://127.0.0.1:8788

Alternatively, install the downloaded wheel into a virtual environment:

python3 -m venv .venv
.venv/bin/python -m pip install ./openhook_mcp-0.1.0-py3-none-any.whl
.venv/bin/openhook --http

Open http://127.0.0.1:8788/app and connect your MCP client to http://127.0.0.1:8788/mcp. External senders require public routing; localhost-only success does not establish public reachability. Configure mail and DNS listeners separately.

Included

  • Native HTTP, SMTP, and authoritative DNS capture; 29 MCP tool schemas.
  • Private inbox tokens, rotation, signature checks, durable activity, cursor-based waits, and local forwarding.
  • Browser inspector and server-rendered documentation.
  • Optional hosted account and billing infrastructure, disabled by default. Hosted Pro is planned, not open for purchase.

Validation and limits

The release-preparation PR passed the full 57-test suite. A fresh wheel installation served its pages and tool catalog, completed the callback example, and delivered exact callback bytes through its installed listener to a local handler with a saved cursor. The example also passed against the public free service.

Use this beta for integration testing. There is no uptime SLA. Hosted merchant/OAuth activation and real Stripe sandbox verification remain pending. No payment was made as part of this release.

The package is not currently published on PyPI. Download the artifacts here or use the source repository. SHA256SUMS covers the wheel, source archive, and example script.
