Ability to change the 'Find Styles' button to work with other websites

Regarding #243 and OpenUserCSS in particular, would it be possible to change the 'Find Styles' button in the Stylus pop-out acquire search results from openusercss.org and possibly other websites, as opposed to userstyles.org? This should perhaps be a setting that the user can configure according to preference, but it doesn't have to be.
I expect this will not be possible right away considering OpenUserCSS is having some issues with their search widget, but it is a good long-term goal to consider.

i'd say it sounds like a good idea, openusercss seems to be a better built website. my only criticism is the lack of thumbnails in the search feature and the main page, however obviously if you're using the extension it won't matter anyway. xstyle doesn't have the BEST search functionality, however it does have compatibility with freestyler.ws, i'm not sure if that may help to look at.

Just had a thought -- was reading a little bit about the history (e.g. @narcolepticinsomniac's comment here:

Obviously, I don't have the entire story except that it sounds like there were some well founded issues.

Given that - presumably - Stylus has a goal of not doing things (involving privacy issues) like what happened with Stylish (?) and that it would appear that userstyles.org is directly associated with Stylish (it does say so right on the website) .... Could that make content hosted there "tainted"? I'm not saying nor implying that everything there is dangerous, deceitful, and/or malicious at all -- I'm just wondering if it can be a trusted source?

If not, perhaps it would be a good idea to include an extra warning or something when downloading/installing from userstyles.org? (Somewhat like what Firefox already does when you try to install an extension manually, for example.)

(Although it would be a huge scope expansion -- perhaps even just syncing with a repository on Github that contains a directory of styles? Would make it open and transparent to track and could help to ensure that users stay safe?)

Not really. Stylish (the extension) is the real privacy issue. It tracks every visited URL and keyword search term and sends that data back to the devs. They say it's anonymized, but that's debatable, as described here and here. After a huge backlash, they were basically forced to make analytics "opt-in" instead of enabling them by default, but they claim that users need to opt in to their excessive data collection in order to provide their inline search, which is simply a lie, and they disable the functionality if users don't grant the permission.

Stylus doesn't connect to USO unless the user decides to by using inline search. USO pretty much has a monopoly on userstyles, so if you wanna actually find relevant styles, they're kinda unavoidable. The API returns relevant style stats and pics, and if you install, then the actual stylesheet. Yes, your computer is connecting to USO to make these requests, but it's about the most sanitized way of doing so.

The usercss format allows for self contained hosting and installing - so there's that. You can search by the topic tag on Github. Unfortunately, more than 99% of the userstyles on the internet are hosted by USO, so searching anywhere else for relevant styles on a per-site basis is pretty pointless. Inline search is merely a convenience feature. If you prefer to never interact with their servers, simply refrain from using it.

We decided against this for freestyler and openusercss. AFAIK, there's no alternatives worth the effort.
