Can't launch game offline, launcher attempts to download metadata even with offline account (2.2.2 Linux appimage)

I'm having trouble launching the game offline, and I'm not sure if it's because of a problem with the launcher or me misunderstanding offline accounts. Up until now I've only used an offline account but never tried to launch the game offline, but when I try, it tries to download metadata (as far as I'm aware) anyway, and of course makes no progress.

The first time I tried, it failed immediately and opened the console which said it failed to retrieve metadata, but I'm not sure if this is relevant because when I restarted my device it attempted and carried on like I described above, so this could just be my device or my internet.

Am I misunderstanding the purpose of offline accounts? When I looked up the problem, I couldn't find anyone else having the same issue but I saw people mentioning offline mode, is launching in offline mode a separate thing I need to do?

These accounts are offline because they don't use Microsoft servers. They let you play on servers where Microsoft authentication is disabled. What you need is the offline launch. It can be used with any account.
