On making repos actually welcoming: The single best thing I ever did? “New here? Just comment ‘👋’ below — I’ll reply within 24h with a curated list of easy issues + setup tips just for you.” Sounds silly… but it WORKED. People felt seen. I got 7 new contributors in 2 weeks. One even said: “I’ve never had a maintainer personally welcome me before.” Also: I recorded a 90-second loom video walking through the first PR. Link it in the README. Takes 5 mins to make, saves 50 people 5 hours. 🚫 Most off-putting thing I’ve seen? |
