Organisation owner contact details for prospective new members

Hello @ParaChute-UK/org_owners,

There seems to be no way for GitHub account holders to request organisation membership directly via GitHub, so we will need to individually invite members on request. The organisation README currently requests that prospective members "contact one of the organisation owners to be invited as a member". I have made my organisation ownership status public, so anyone can see it under https://github.com/orgs/ParaChute-UK/people, and it would be useful if at least one other owner did the same. My Reading email address is on my GitHub profile so prospective members can email me from there. This all does seem a bit convoluted though.

A better way might be to create a "Discussion" thread for membership requests? My reading of the GitHub documentation on discussions pages suggests that anyone with a GitHub account should be able to participate in an already-created discussion, since the organisation .github repository is public and therefore everyone has read access to it.

Let me know your thoughts.

I'd vote for the discussion approach, it feels easier to watch/get notifications on (we can just subscribe to the thread) and it's a one-off engagement for the users.

OK. I'll set up an "Organisation membership requests" discussion and point to it from the README.

and pinned on the Discussions page. Ideally we'd get someone who isn't already a member to test it out.
