Hi everyone,

you're tagged because code or translations you wrote ship in the Bulwark mobile app (bulwarkmail/native). Some of you contributed to the app directly. The rest contributed to this repository: the app copies the webmail's translation files as they are, and ports a few pieces of code, such as the Sieve filter parser and generator.

Why I'm asking

Both projects are licensed under AGPL-3.0-only. Apple's App Store terms put restrictions on users that section 10 of the AGPL does not allow, such as device limits and DRM, and Google Play's terms raise similar doubts. Because the app contains your work, I can only publish it there with your permission.

What I want to change

I'd like to add an additional permission under section 7 of the AGPL to both repositories (full text below). It lets anyone distribute Bulwark through an app store, as long as they:

make the full source code of that exact version available to everyone, free of charge, under the AGPL
say in the app store listing or in the app where to get it
add no restrictions of their own

Nothing else changes. The code stays AGPL, and anyone can remove the permission from their own fork. If you only contributed before 16 March 2026, when the webmail was still MIT-licensed, you aren't on the list, because MIT already allows this.

I won't add the permission to the LICENSE files until everyone below has answered or the parts they wrote have been replaced.

What I'm asking you

If you agree, reply with the sentence from the TL;DR at the top, and I'll tick your box.

If you'd rather not, just say so, no hard feelings. I'll replace what you wrote in the app: translations get translated again, code gets rewritten.

Additional permission under GNU AGPL version 3 section 7

The copyright holders of this Program give you additional permission to
convey a covered work (this Program, a modified version of it, or a work
that contains parts of it) through an app store, even though the app
store's terms of service, usage rules or technical measures place
restrictions on recipients that section 10 of this License would otherwise
not allow, such as a limit on the number of devices a copy may be installed
on, or digital rights management applied to the copy.

This permission applies only if you:

  a) make the Corresponding Source of each version you convey through the
     app store available, at no charge and under the terms of this

Unrelated to the above and not a condition: it would be a nice touch to have a small credits section in the app's About screen for notable contributors. Where to draw the line is of course up to you.
