How can I turn off link previews for GitHub links in Slack? #161689
Select Topic AreaQuestion BodyAt some point the GitHub Slack bot asked me if I'd like for any GitHub links to have previews added to Slack messages, and I said yes. I now regret that choice - the previews are often too long/noisy. How do I turn the previews off for GitHub? I've made a change in my general Slack settings to not show text previews of linked websites, but this doesn't seem to apply to GitHub links, hence I suspect it's the GitHub integration rather than Slack itself. |

You're absolutely right GitHub link previews in Slack are not controlled by Slack's general link preview settings , but rather by the GitHub app's integration settings in Slack. Here's how to disable GitHub link previews in Slack: Workspace Admin Disable GitHub Previews in Slack If you're an admin (or ask one):

You’re right, this isn’t controlled by Slack’s global “link previews” setting. To disable them:
Alternative: If you only want to suppress previews occasionally, you can wrap the link in '< >'. |

go to https://github.com/settings/apps/authorizations and disconnect slack app |

Go to Slack settings → “Messages & media” → turn off “Show previews of linked websites.” For only GitHub links, ask your Slack admin to adjust GitHub app settings. |
