Hi hzieglernew, You raise an excellent point — xAI Grok 4.5 has matured into a capable development assistant, and the lack of direct Copilot integration does create friction for teams using both tools. From a workflow perspective, supporting Grok 4.5 would help unify developer environments and prevent fragmentation between AI assistants. Many developers already rely on Grok’s contextual reasoning and Copilot’s code‑generation strengths; combining them would make the ecosystem more cohesive. At the moment, GitHub Copilot doesn’t expose an official API or plugin interface for third‑party AI models like Grok. However, your suggestion aligns with ongoing discussions about multi‑model extensibility — allowing Copilot to interoperate with external inference engines while maintaining GitHub’s privacy and compliance standards. I’d recommend submitting this idea through GitHub Feedback → Copilot Feature Requests, or opening a ticket with GitHub Support referencing this discussion number (#202757). That ensures the product team can track it formally for roadmap consideration. Your proposal highlights a real developer need: seamless AI collaboration rather than tool competition. A future Copilot extension for xAI Grok 4.5 would definitely strengthen the ecosystem and keep developers inside the workflow they already value. Thanks for articulating this so clearly — it’s a thoughtful and forward‑looking suggestion. |

Body
As a developer using both GitHub Copilot and xAI Grok 4.5, I want to highlight a workflow gap that affects many of us. Grok 4.5 is mature, strong, and already part of real development pipelines. When Copilot doesn’t support it, developers inevitably bolt on external tools to fill the gap. That creates fragmentation and increases the risk that alternative Copilot‑like assistants become permanent parts of our workflow.
This isn’t about corporate alignment — developers simply want the best tools available, in one place. Copilot is excellent, and it would be a shame to see unnecessary competition emerge only because Grok 4.5 isn’t supported.
A Copilot implementation for Grok 4.5 would strengthen the ecosystem, reduce fragmentation, and keep developers inside the Copilot experience they already value.
Thank you for considering this.
