Student Developer Pack approved but stuck on “Awaiting Benefits” for 5+ days

Hi everyone,

The Education page states that benefits should become available within 72 hours (3 days), but it has now been more than 5 days. My GitHub account is still on the Free plan, and the Student Developer Pack benefits have not been activated. This was a renewal of a previously active Student Developer Pack that had expired.

GitHub Actions is also currently showing paid usage for actions, which should be covered differently once the Education benefits are active.

Could someone please advise on the status of the benefit activation or whether anything needs to be done to trigger it?

A few things worth checking while you wait, because "approved but still Free plan" has a couple of self-service causes mixed in with the genuine backlog:

1. The Pro plan and the Pack benefits activate separately. Check https://github.com/settings/billing — if it still says Free, the education grant hasn't been applied at all yet (that's the backlog case). The published 72-hour window slips regularly, especially around semester-start surges; a renewal application goes through the same queue as new ones.
2. Partner benefits are claim-based, not automatic. Once the grant lands, each partner offer still has to be activated from https://education.github.com/pack by clicking through to the partner — they don't retroactively enable themselves. If you're waiting for those to "appear", that's not how they arrive.
3. Actions billing: the education grant doesn't change Actions billing for private repos beyond what the Pro plan includes — if you're seeing "paid usage", check whether it's actually being charged (a spending limit of $0 blocks it) versus just displayed as metered usage against the included quota.
4. If billing still shows Free after ~7 days from approval, contact the education-specific support at https://support.github.com/contact/education with your application ID — that queue can see grant-application state; this forum can't.

The renewal detail is worth including in the ticket: expired-then-renewed packs occasionally get stuck in a state where the old grant blocks the new one from applying, and that specific unstick is something only their side can do.
