Parallel uploads from dashboard #3781
Describe the enhancementI'm utilizing remote build servers to improve build-time performance. My typical project build is 45-50s. Some devices I upload via OTA take >1min to upload so i end up with a huge backlog of uploads. Since the build is complete, multiple uploads should be able to run in parallel Use casesI have a few devices that due to 'crap wifi' take a long time for OTA. Other uploads get stuck behind these devices.

@bdraco is the number tunable at runtime or is it defined as part of the dashboard build? |

It’s currently hardcoded to three concurrent normal uploads and one concurrent Thread upload. The Thread upload lane is intentionally limited to one to avoid overloading Thread networks. We could probably bump the normal upload limit to four without much additional risk, but beyond that we’d need to start tracking available system resources and making scheduling decisions based on them. That adds complexity, assumes available RAM is actually ours to use, and creates another area we’d need to maintain and support. If we get there, it would be better to invest the time and reducing the RAM requirements for uploads rather than building that level of complexity Edit: esphome/esphome#17684 should allow us to bump it up more with esphome/device-builder#2206 If you find that you still end up with the compile ahead of the upload, please open the new feature request and explain, and we can consider adjusting the limit |
