How to search for non-foreign currency transactions

Hi,

I am looking to make a rule that only applies to transactions done in the local, non-foreign currency, but can't seem to make it happen.

The transactions I am looking for have foreign_currency_id set to null and foreign_amount set to "".

What I've tried without success:
I've tried both putting the string null in the text box, and leaving it empty with the `TRansaction foreign currency is" trigger.
I've also tried "Foreign amount is" with blank box, or string "null".
I've also tested if Foreign amount is more/less/not more/not less than empty box or 0.

Is there a different trigger or value to test?
Perhaps something alike "transaction has not property" = "foreign_currency_id"?

There is currently no way to search for those transactions, but I'll put it on my list!

Could a workaround be for me to have two rules? e.g.

1. A helper rule: Sets a foreign currency tag on all rules with foreign currency
2. The real rule: filters for transactions without the foreign currency tag

Not sure in which order the rule groups fire, but if they are both in the same group I assume I can ensure the helper always fires first.

Can an update from a rule trigger a different rule set to "When a transaction is updated"?

That could work yes, you'll have to test it on the demo site. Rules are always applied to "fresh" transactions, i.e. if a previous rule changes the transaction, it propagates to the next rule. However, rules cannot fire other rules.

Noted, updates from rules do NOT trigger new When a transaction is updated- rules.

As a new user I appreciate how approachable Firefly III is, its easy enough to get started with. That said, I keep running into limitations in the automations and wish there was just a smidge more advanced controls and flexibility.
I get that isn't the goal of Firefly III. I'm just giving one incoming users opinion.

What would you recommend for us wanting some more control? Pre-processing before import or webhook/API?

I usually do a webhook/API, that gives me less maintenance.

The next release will offer has_foreign_amount:true and has_foreign_amount:false.
