Problem

Not needing to use bots to supplement certain features like discord does.

Proposed solution

Various features and several ideas for new channel types to be implemented, I am aware that different channel types is already a request, however I feel as though I have some unique ideas to add to the table.

• I know Being able to have RSS implemented into channels so the content can propagate the web freely in a non proprietary standard, but I was thinking, what bout the other way around? Why not an RSS feed reader/and/or/a channel that can receive RSS from a self hosted aggregator like FreshRSS?

• Non static voice channels that are removed when no one is in it after a period of time. Like how the channel bots work, you click on the join channel and it "spawns" a channel under the control of the person who spawned it, with the capability for that person to set participant limits, change the name/description move/kick people out, etc.

• Embedded web pages, both server side (where everyone see's the same page) and client side (where it's unique to every individual that clicks on the channel), also they could potentially log into say an externally hosted app. Also giving controls to limit which URL paths are acceptable to to navigate in order to prevent lets say a server side hosted one that everyone has access to from being modified. This could be good for something like lets say a self hosted media server for a group movie night. Probably need a clear explanation to educate users on how to use them and a clear indicator for which is which and a warning to prevent mal intent/abuse. Another use case for this might be something like embedding livechart.me (seasonal anime schedule) I use if frequently to check what I will be watching the next season. Would be nice if the server side version could also check if the Fluxer client is mobile or desktop and switch accordingly.

• Looks like threads (forum channels) was already a request in the works. Something I would like to see is direct/native integration with other platforms, like Github Discussions without the need for a bridge bot. Issue/bug reports as well. I feel as though developers will find it very appealing.

• TTS built in and not requiring a bot. Looks like there may already be a request for this? Not sure if that setting is already available correct me if it is.

• Console native versions including the Nintendo Switch, Just to clarify my stance, I'm not one for giving Nintendo money, but I do have some friends that only play things on switch/mobile and a native client would be amazing if possible (obviously no rush, mobile needs to come first). Switch basically being a glorified android tablet with proprietary Nintendo libraries tacked on, might be easier than one would think. I could be totally wrong though.

• Thoughts on federation have an option to keep the instance signup invite only. Personally I just want my instance to be small and for my friend group, not a public instance, but they still be able to join servers on other instances. Also don't do what other federated services are doing and ban other instances out right. Bans should be done on an individual user basis, blanket banning instances defeats the purpose of federation.

• A suggestion for something to avoid, for context I started hating discord long before the age verification garbage. If you ever have to raise the price to keep things going; either properly grandfather people in, or the better alternative in my opinion, don't take features away from users on the 5 dollar plan, add a newer tier instead. Don't be like discord and move people to a "classic" alternative and take features away. That was the moment I knew discord was a downhill slope.

Couple of additions for 04/10/26

• A decky loader plugin would be amazing so you can open fluxer on the right hand overlay with other decky loader plugins, join voice channels from there, ect.

• [Quick update, forgot to check the new ones, its already requested by airpioa over here.] More regarding self hosting, maybe working with the kind folks over at Proxmox Helper Scripts for those who aren't going to want to use docker. I prefer to not nest a docker image inside a LXC or VM It's not an elegant solution, and I'm personally not a huge fan of it.

• To add to the helper script suggestion, maybe a bare metal install script as well? I'm probably going to want to put it in a VM instead of a LXC, helper scripts doesn't always do VM scripts.

Couple of additions for 05/09/26

• Was thinking maybe spitballing this idea before Hampus gets too far along on eventually integrating forums. I was thinking maybe a direct Discourse integration? Lawrence Systems did a video recently talking about the negative drawbacks of many forums moving to discord and advocating the use of Discourse. I was thinking maybe some kind of collaborative effort to integrate with each others service might not be a bad idea?

• Integrate features like you see in projects like better discord natively.
  To name a few I've been very dependent on:

  • Server folders open in a separate column (assuming server folders are a planned feature).
  • Double click to join voice.
  • Better code blocks with language labels "```language"

Something I keep forgetting to add 05/12/26

• Reaction roles (role assignment using emojis) being a native feature rather than using a bot.

• Maybe a built in feature to "subscribe" to text channels, for example. Maybe one comes to a server for 1~3 text channels, the other channels could be seen as clutter maybe having a master/control channel where users can hide/unhide channels they may want to interact with. I think a good example of the use case would be:

• GAME A Channel - USER Plays this game

• GAME B Channel - USER Doesn't play this game and has no interest

• Hide GAME B Channel to reduce clutter and make the interface cleaner/easier to navigate.

• To add further to this:

• Better code blocks with language labels "```language"

add a second copy button on the header with the title box with "language" to copy the markdown block for re-posting, or alternatively add an item to the context menu to copy the markdown text, I think that would be a nice usability improvement.

I think gifs already autoplay--that has been my experience. Conversely, I'd like to be able to turn that OFF, or at least pause the animations.

Bans should be done on an individual user basis, blanket banning instances defeats the purpose of federation. This is a necessary part of federation, since there will be many instances created with the sole purpose of distributing spam. Since you can own the instance (and account creation), it will be trivial to create scripts that automate account creation, with things like 2FA and phone verification already enabled (or at least reporting as enabled).

Console-native version might be harder to pull off than expected, as that is dependent on the console manufacturer as well, not just Fluxer.

With the rest I mostly agree. Web-channels sounds cool. Also intergration with forum software, like Discourse or NodeBB, and let the app act like a frontend for the forum, instead of building a new one from scratch.
