Show list of running automations / scripts on manual restart

The manual restart feature wisely warns me that restarting will interrupt running automations or scripts.

It would be great if the restart could say "There are no running automations or scripts" or "Restarting will interrupt [N] running automations or scripts".

In the case of running automations or scripts, I suggest adding another expander like the "Advanced options v" called "Running automations and scripts v" which the user could expand to see which ones are running.

I know that this number could change quickly during the process of reviewing the dialogue, but it's particularly critical for long-running automations or scripts (e.g. > 3 seconds) that might cause state problems.

If that isn't feasible, then maybe a new item in the System submenu?

I saw this new addition in the 2026.9 release notes and I’m really happy to see this being implemented. First of all, thank you for working on it.

I wanted to share an integration I created called Restart Guard:

I first released it on July 31 and have been improving it over the last few weeks. It’s currently at v0.0.8.

The integration is built around the same general idea, but it also adds look-ahead protection. For example, when you try to restart Home Assistant, it can warn you that an automation is about to run. By default, it looks ahead 6 minutes, shows which automation is coming up, and lets you click directly into that automation.

That helps cover another case beyond automations that are already running: restarting Home Assistant 30 seconds before an automation is scheduled to run, causing that run to be missed completely.

Restart Guard currently works with:

• Home Assistant automations
• Scripts

The goal is basically to catch restart actions wherever possible and warn when restarting could interrupt something currently running or cause an upcoming automation to be missed.

Maybe you could take a look at the project and use some of the ideas or logic as a reference if this feature continues to be expanded natively in Home Assistant.

The running-automation warning is already a fantastic improvement. I think adding look-ahead detection as well could make it much more robust and prevent the common case where Home Assistant is restarted just seconds before an important automation is supposed to fire.

I don't think I'll personally add that, but always encourage people to try a PR if they think they have good ideas to contribute to the project.

I worry a bit about trying to predict the future as we'll never be able to predict everything that's about to happen, and showing a partial view of the future might give the false impression of certainty.

Like there could always be Rube Goldbergian contraptions where there's a calendar event that's offset by 2 hours that's coming up in the next minute that triggers a template render that changes a state that fires an event that triggers an automation, etc etc.
