crowsnest no longer in update window of "machine"

Hi again,
i'm desperately trying to get my Cam working.
In order to do so, i followed this tutorial by dr.Klipper.
Its about an older version of Crowsnest but i hoped it would make no difference.
So dr. Klipper then continues and via ssh uninstalles crowsnest and then reinstalles it afterwards with the latest version.
I followed the steps so far... but in my update section of "machine" it no longer lists crowsnest as a software that can be updated.

all this made me question if the current version of crowsnest even has to be manually installed as per the shown tutorial or if the update issues have been fixed in the meantime.

how do i get the crowsnest back into the update section?

im so sorry if my questions seem kinda stupid.

i really only want to 3D-Print and design. I'm not that much into all that coding and configuration stuff. im still learning every day.

please help me.

hi, here is the log.
I just restarted my machine and in addition now there was an error message associated with the moonraker.log

Im sure whatever i messed up is related to my poor attempt at installing the latest crowsnest.

pls... do not follow "random guides" from the internet (also when dr. klipper makes really good guides). BUT this guide is NOT for MainsailOS and it is for upgrading from V3 to V4. On MainsailOS v3, crownest v5 is already installed, so you broke it with following this guide...

The moonraker.conf looks correct for v5, so we have to find out what version you got installed right now.

I’m angry at myself for this.

I just followed the video until 4:48.

Until „sudo apt make install“

Then I looked on my machine… and the crowsnest was gone.

Maybe it didn’t install correctly (most probably).

Then I stopped and realized I might have made a mistake and consulted You for help.

I have a backup .img of my Pi from last week, before I set up resonance measurements and got input shaper running.

But that would mean reinstalling the 2nd Klipper instance on the pi again.

Is there a way to fix my mistake without having to flash my pi?

A full wipe is never needed, unless you made an in-place upgrade of your PiOS.

The 4:48 timestamp is most likely the clue I needed already to help you out but I have to confirm that first.

Send the output of the following commands that we find out which version you are currently on:

cd ~/crowsnest
git branch

Hi, this is what the cmg says.

Then run these commands one by one:

cd ~/crowsnest
make uninstall
git switch v5
sudo make install

I think this should fix your problems.

i installed v3, didnt i?

Next task is to get the cam rolling.

i already mounted it in a printed case and connected it to the pi.

Yes, you installed v3, as you didn't listen to what Dr. Klipper said and just blindly followed the commands.
He basically said (translated to english, that everyone can understand):

If you got MainsailOS v1.2 installed [...] then you already got Crowsnest v4 installed and you don't have to do this whole update procedure. You only have to manage the config. More on that later in the video.

Next time make sure to not follow guides that are 3 years old and don't match any version you have installed. You should also listen to things people say in videos, as they might say something about the context of the things they show.

The most up to date sources are often documentations. Try to use the docs first and then look for guides or help, if you cannot manage to achieve your goal with those.

These small tips can you often save quite some time troubleshooting old outdated stuff 😄
