Request for Jakarta (Indonesia) Region Support on Supabase for Regulatory Compliance

Indonesia has strict data residency and sovereignty regulations that require certain types of data especially personal, financial, and government-related information to be stored and processed within national borders. This regulation is increasingly enforced across industries such as banking, fintech, education, and public services.

Currently, Supabase does not offer a Jakarta region (or any Indonesian data center), which poses significant compliance challenges for organizations operating in Indonesia. Without a local region option, companies are forced to either:

• Store data outside the country, risking non-compliance with Peraturan Pemerintah No. 71 Tahun 2019 (PP71) and related data protection laws, or
• Avoid using Supabase altogether, despite its strong developer experience and feature set.

Adding a Jakarta (ID) region would:

• Enable Indonesian businesses and institutions to adopt Supabase while staying compliant.
• Open the platform to a fast-growing market of developers and startups in Southeast Asia’s largest digital economy.
• Strengthen Supabase’s position as a global backend platform supporting diverse regulatory environments.

Many cloud providers (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) already have data centers in Jakarta to meet similar regulatory demands. Supabase’s support for this region would be a crucial step toward enabling secure, compliant, and scalable solutions for Indonesian users.

Suggested action:

• Add Jakarta (ap-southeast-3) region support to Supabase hosting.
• Alternatively, provide a clear timeline or roadmap regarding planned expansion to Indonesia.

This addition will help many developers in Indonesia adopt Supabase confidently and legally.
