Origami Diagram Maker 1.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@ThomasKrak ThomasKrak released this 16 Oct 17:57

What's new

  • Inside reverse arrows: Annotations tab › "Add inside reverse arrow" places an S-shaped
arrow from a corner to where it lands. Where the corner goes in between the layers, the arrow
is drawn dashed. Drag the handles on its two bends to change its shape.
  • More arrow styles: the annotation style window has an Arrows tab. Choose the heads of
valley and mountain fold arrows and the shape and fill of push arrows, and let valley fold
arrows come from behind the paper.
  • Export step images: File › Export step images saves every step as an SVG or PNG file. The
Step tab's Advanced section exports one step.
  • Import several crease patterns at once: Add step › Import files adds them as Fold steps,
in the order of their file names. One Undo takes them all out again.
  • The Add step window opens at once, also for large models. While the program is idle, it
prepares the suggested next step, so that step is usually ready by the time you add it.
  • Face lines and the model outline are now drawn over reference lines, so they stay unbroken.
This changes the look of existing projects too. To get the old look back, choose Annotation
style › Lines › Reference lines › "Over face lines".
  • Large models compute much faster, and redrawing a model after turning it is faster too.
Projects with many reference lines take less space.

Fixed

  • Fold lines that cross a crease the same step unfolds (as in an open-and-squash) are drawn
completely and in the right place. Such a line now has one part per layer: if you had
changed its settings, set them again on each part.
  • Reference-line ends follow the drawn faces exactly, and a reference line that can't be placed
is left out instead of being drawn as a short stray line.
  • Moving a step next to a precrease no longer puts the precrease on the wrong pair of steps.
  • The colour picker no longer takes on the colour being picked.
  • macOS: updates also install when ODM was installed for all users (in the Applications
folder). The Mac asks for an administrator password. This works from 1.2.0 on: if you
installed 1.1 for all users, its update to 1.2.0 still fails, so please download 1.2.0 from
    the website once.
  • When an update can't be installed, the message now says why this can happen and that you can
install the new version from the website.

Projects made with an earlier version redraw their steps once when you first open them.

On a Mac, macOS asks you to approve ODM once: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway.

Licence

The same as 1.0 (licence version 1.0): free for individuals, including selling diagrams you make
with it, up to EUR 1,000 a year of income from them, and free for non-profit origami societies
and schools. Organisations and commissioned work need a separate licence: just get in touch. The
full terms are in LICENSE.txt next to the program and at

@ThomasKrak ThomasKrak released this 14 Oct 19:32

What's new

  • ODM now also runs on macOS and Linux: on Macs with Apple silicon (macOS 14 or later), and
on 64-bit Linux as an AppImage.
  • Turn over and rotate steps are drawn with the standard origami symbols, in the program and in
    exports.
  • Reference lines under fold lines: Show or Hide them in the annotation style.
  • Gaps at the ends of reference lines, as a fraction of the paper size: for one line in the
annotation editor, or for all lines in the annotation style.
  • Crease pattern editor: the Mirror tool (Shift+R) mirrors a line across another.
  • Make precrease / Make fold turns a fold into a precrease and back (the Step tab's Advanced
    section).
  • Edit for sequence changes a step's crease pattern in the editor and carries the change on
through the later steps (Step tab, Advanced).
  • Step numbers in a free handwriting font.

Fixed

  • An unexpected error now shows a message (in 1.0 the error box never appeared).
  • Fold lines next to a folded corner are drawn in the right place.
  • The preview of crease patterns drawn in the editor shows the whole paper.
  • Page turning in the export preview with trackpads and high-resolution mouse wheels.
  • Placing an arrow no longer leaves the previously selected arrow highlighted.

On a Mac, macOS asks you to approve ODM once: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway.

Origami Diagram Maker 1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@ThomasKrak ThomasKrak released this 13 Oct 20:46

The first public release

Origami Diagram Maker (ODM) turns crease patterns into step-by-step origami diagrams. Load a
crease pattern for each step, and ODM folds it: it works out the layers, draws the paper as it
really lies, adds the fold arrows and precreases, and lays the steps out on pages ready to print.

  • Every step is drawn from the folded model. View it from any angle, and spread the layers to
    show what is inside.
  • ODM works out which layer lies on top. Where the folds leave a choice, you pick.
  • A built-in crease pattern editor, and import of .cp files from ORIPA, Oriedita and other tools.
  • Precreases, valley and mountain lines and the main fold arrows are worked out for you; add
your own fold and push arrows where you want them.
  • Export the whole sequence as a vector PDF, or single steps as SVG or PNG.

For Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit). ODM installs for your own account, without administrator
rights, and asks before installing an update.

Licence

Free for individuals, including selling diagrams you make with it, up to EUR 1,000 a year of
income from them, and free for non-profit origami societies and schools. Organisations and
commissioned work need a separate licence: just get in touch. The full terms (licence
version 1.0) are in LICENSE.txt next to the program and at
