• CleanScreen.dmg: for macOS 13 or later, on Apple Silicon and Intel

New

• Rotation. Turn an external display to 90°, 180° or 270° from the bottom of the menu. It works while the display is scaled: CleanScreen rebuilds the scale in the new direction.
• Suggestions for new displays. When you plug in a display where text is small, such as a 16" 2560×1600 monitor, a window suggests a scale based on its pixel density. You can pick one, or choose Don't Use on This Display. Displays that are already easy to read aren't asked about.
• Hidden until needed. A new option shows the menu bar icon only while a display that uses CleanScreen is connected. Together with Start CleanScreen when the Mac starts, CleanScreen waits quietly and turns on when you plug in your monitor.
• Off (macOS Setting) is now the first item for each display. 100% is a scale too, and it kept the virtual display on.
• The menu marks the recommended scale.

Fixed

• Fast displays (120 Hz, 165 Hz) could flicker while scaled. The virtual display only runs at 60 Hz, so CleanScreen now warns you about these displays in the menu and in the new display window.
• The recommended scale was wrong while a display was scaled, because macOS reports a larger physical size for a mirrored display.
• Display sizes no longer show thousands separators.

Good to know

• The app isn't notarized. On first launch, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
• CleanScreen uses undocumented macOS APIs, so a macOS update could break it. Off (macOS Setting) in the menu, or quitting the app, always restores the original picture.

What's in it

• Every scale in HiDPI. 100% to 200%, rounded to fit your display's aspect ratio. You can add your own scales in Settings.
• Remembers each display. It applies the last scale again when you plug a monitor in, when the Mac wakes up, or when the app starts.
• Starts with your Mac if you turn this on in Settings.
• Several external displays, each with its own scale.
• English and Turkish. It follows the system, or you can choose a language in Settings.
• Recovers on its own if the mirroring is lost after you unplug the cable and plug it back in.
• New look. The same warm design as PhoneDrop and FreshMyMac: sunshine yellow on paper tones, in light and dark.
