Principles

These decide what gets built.

  1. Offline first. Every core feature works with no network and no account.
  2. Your data stays yours. Network calls happen only when you send a request, sync Git, check for updates, or use something you turned on.
  3. Optional means off. Sign-ins, AI and other outside services stay off until you enable them.
  4. Files are the source of truth. Git works with plain tools, outside the app.
  5. No feature gates. Nothing is paid or held back. A feature that needs a remote service lets you bring your own.
  6. Compact and fast. Interface space goes to your work.

Licensing

  • restless is Apache-2.0.
  • Insomnia code is Apache-2.0. Keep notices, and check the license of each commit taken.
  • Bruno is MIT. Keep its copyright notice on anything ported.
  • Don't use Kong's or Bruno's names or logos as branding.
  • Paid Bruno features aren't in its repository, so build those from scratch.
