@Aspiand why rust |

I think Rust is the current trend among large companies due to its immense speed and efficiency. I believe that what prevented us from using Rust for a long time was the limitations of human capabilities, but with AI, things have changed completely. |

Welcome to the age of AI, son. |

rust is a chemical change. Now in modern ages, Rust has become both a physical change and a chemical change :) |

Bun was using its own fork of Zig, which was an unmaintainable decision to be honest but back then they probably thought they had no other direction than fixing the language's limitations. As much as I enjoy using AI, I know that structure is the most important thing in a big codebase. No one will be able to fix issues with a huge code entirely created by AI and fixes done by AI will be accepted only based in faith on it. I am waiting for the TS Go since they announced it. They are putting thousands of great engineer hours into it. I have no issue in smartly using AI. Who will want to use a core tool for their systems when no one has a single flying fuck idea of how it works? Without trust no project has a foundation. There's also this situation I haven't seen anyone saying: who advocated for Bun and had people to believe in them and now have these people to think of them when remembering who pushed for this decision. It's disrespectful to out of nothing come up with this big change that simply won't be maintainable and people will look for other solutions due to the lost of trust. |

Subject: Re: [oven-sh/bun] Why rust (Discussion #30862)
fullack! i'm one of those people who was advocating for bun. with stomach pain i saw the AI changesets flooding in in the past year and hoped for some kind of reckoning to bring some sense back into the project.
i am a big advocate of moving fast breaking things, rewrites and ports... i write a lot of rust and zig and i admire the boldness of Sumner i understand the frustration with the zig team and the incentive of memory-safety. None of this was achieved and the tradeoff incaculable. the LGTM part... i can't subscribe to. maybe a few more megatokens will make it better. maybe they will find rust-devs insane enough to jump into this pool blindfolded.
But this came as a shock to all of us. It's a situation i just cannot sell to mgmt or other devs, even if i had 10x the trust in the bun team.

In fact, what surprises me more is why we chose Zig, a language that hasn't even reached version 1.0 yet. |

I think the reason to switch from Zig to Rust is not just its speed but also its memory management, which makes it more secure than Zig. |

Hey I'm a beginner here The website states that rust is low-level and no hidden control flow but why not use zig. Is bun fast because it written in rust??
