Undelete folder

Actually, I realize that the problem is not specific to folders: files also do not appear in the Trash Bin -- which remains empty no matter what I delete. I do not seem to see log messages appearing under admin.

If it still doesn't work it would be great if you could also try to apply this patch to your oc5.0.3 installation: #2501

I've upgraded to 5.0.3, and the problem persists. I just tried your patch on 5.0.3, and the problem persists.

Can you check your apache error log, the onwcloud.log and maybe also the java script console of your browser for any error message. Also make sure that the debug mode is enabled by adding "define('DEBUG',true);" to your config.php

The problem still exists on OC-5.0.4.

I have the same problem with oc-5.0.4. I have created a folder, uploaded a file, and removed it. The trashbin is empty, on the filesystem, and of course in webinterface too.

I have tried this with big files, and I have realized, that in the background it copies the file into the proper trash folder, but as soon as the deletion ends, something deletes it. No error messages can be seen

@spinter This sound like you doesn't have enough disk space left. The trash bin is designer not to use more than 50% of your available disk space / quote. If you reach this limit the oldes files get deleted until you meet the limit again. This means depending on your quota / disk space it can be possible that the large file is simply to large to stay in the trash bin.

@schiesbn ah, I didn't know about the 50% limit thing. Definitely this could happen, because it is more than 80% full. Can this limit be changed with a config? Or can this check be disabled totally?

@spinter There is no config option yet. The only think you can adjust is how long a file stays in the trash bin. By default a file gets deleted if it is older than 180 days or if the size limit is met. This is necessary to manage the disk space of the user efficient and still keep the trash bin working. In most cases this function will only remove some old files from the trash bin to have enough space for newer files. But if you running short of memory or if you delete really old files it can happen that all files get removed. Basically this is a trade off between the trash bin and your files. If you running out of memory we consider space for your actual files more important thanb having access to many deleted files.

By the way, I just saw that my explanation was not accurate. We don't use 50% of the quota in total but 50% of your available quota at the time the expire function was called. For example: You have a total quota (or disk space) of 1000MB, at the beginning the trash bin is allowed to use 500MB. If you use 80% for your actual files (800MB) than the trash bin is allowed to store files up to 100 MB (50% from 200MB (1000MB-800MB))

I suggested a pull request to write a information to the log file once a file gets expired. I hope this will make it more transparent for the user: #2931

@leonl42 Can you apply this patch to your system: #2931 The changes in apps/files_trashbin/lib/trash.php should be sufficient. Afterwards delete a file and check your ownCloud log. Maybe like @spinter you just don't have enough free space left.

@schiesbn I changed the two lines in trash.php, but when I click to delete a file, the waiting icon just keeps going. If I look in the log, I have an error about the first of the two line I've added.

For the space left, if I go in Personal settings, there is a message saying that there is about 80% of my space left. The numbers indicated do not quite seem to add up. Maybe it has to do to the fact that /var/www/owncloud is on one partition, /var/www/owncloud/config and /var/www/owncloud/data on another through a symlink, and I'm mounting another partition.

@leonl42 How many users do you have? Did you set any quote for the users? If you have more than one user and no quota than maybe you run into this: #2936 This bug report also points to a fix which will be released with the next bug fix release.
