full ownCloud user directory auto-included in Contacts module

It would be great if there was a way to have the Contacts module, by default/choice, show a list of all oC users - in a work environment, it'd be very useful to have a canned "employee directory" right there in the system.

Finally the question remains: For a user in the system there is only the username in worst case.

@butonic @jancborchardt we basicall now get back to the point: is a user a contacts? Should the user be able to maintain his own contacts data? We might end up in rebuilding parts of the contacts app in core - what we don't really want to do.

Should the contacts app provide a special addressbook containing all system users?
The contacts app could inject a personal settings page for editing own contact data.
Is that addressbook always shared with everybody?

Maybe better as an isolated app?

And I would say yeah – the Contacts app should have that group. When you use Google Apps for example, Google Contacts also automatically has the other people on the same Google Apps domain in there.

Like @jancborchardt said there is already a LocalUsers backend for the contacts app. This is now implemented as:

• for each user just one static addressbook, the id of that addressbook is the username of the owner
• each addressbook is kept in sync when the user tries to acccess it.
• each addressbook has all ownCloud users in it: the id of every contact is the username of the ownCloud user it represents
• the FN of every contact is kept in sync with the displayname of the ownCloud user. (refs importing birthdays in the wrong form contacts#474 Adding New Contact - Sync to iPhone is broken contacts#482)
