🎉 Major Release - Two-Tier Knowledge Management Architecture

What's New

Two-Tier Architecture:

  • Project KB (.kb/project/) - Private knowledge with direct commits
  • Shared KB (.kb/shared/) - Universal patterns via GitHub Issues workflow
  • Decision Criteria - sharing_criteria in PROJECT.yaml guides agent decisions
  • Context Loading - Automatic via session-start.sh hook

New Tools (v5.1):

  • kb_submit.py - Submit to Project KB or Shared KB via GitHub Issues
  • kb_search.py - Search across Project and Shared KB
  • kb_curate.py - Curator tool for processing GitHub Issues
  • session-start.sh - Hook for automatic context loading

  • docs/v5.1/ARD.md - Complete architecture reference (650+ lines)

Integration Changes

  • PyGithub - Replaced gh CLI dependency with PyGithub library
  • Submission workflow - Agents create Issues instead of direct commits to Shared KB
  • Decision making - Explicit criteria instead of agent guessing

Backward Compatibility

✅ Fully backward compatible with v4.0:

  • All v4.0 tools still work
  • All v4.0 documentation still valid
  • Existing projects can migrate at their own pace
  • No breaking changes to core functionality

Migration

From v4.0 to v5.1:

For new projects:

  • Follow docs/v5.1/README.md

For existing projects:

  • See docs/v5.1/MIGRATION-PLAN.md
  • Run migration script: tools/v5.1/migrate-to-v5.1.sh

Key changes:

  1. Create .kb/context/PROJECT.yaml with sharing criteria
  2. Install session-start.sh hook
  3. Configure GITHUB_TOKEN for submissions
  4. Use new v5.1 tools (optional, v4.0 still works)
