V1.0.15 Alpha
ChooChooTracker v1.0.15-alpha
This alpha brings together all changes since v1.0.14-alpha with new ways to turn your console into a rechargeable hand warmer.
Many thanks to our contributors who did most of the job this week.
Editing and sound
- A complete sample editor: zoomable waveform, region selection, crop, normalize, silence, fades, reverse, delete, undo, WAV save (including 24-bit), and rename.
- Improved sampler workflow: slicing, stretch mode, time-stretch/speed processing, bounce-to-sample, and scale quantization.
- Two automatable, MOD-controllable insert FX per track, with expanded phrase controls and native effects that behave consistently across synths and chip instruments. The first batch includes Tape, Compressors, Doubler, Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Bitcrusher and Destruction. The system is scalable and can accommodate future effects.
- New native chips and FM instruments (Game Boy, SID, NES, Mega Drive, OPL, AdLib, Arcade, etc.), with portable preset banks (DX7, OPLL, and more).
- More chord inversions, including drop voicings.
- Dirtywave M8
.m8simport on all platforms, plus limited template-based export on desktop. - update to jazz mode: now covers more screens
MIDI
- Generic Android USB MIDI input and more robust MIDI routing: MIDI now works on PortMaster, Windows and Android.
- A new MIDI CC mapping screen: map CC to instrument parameters, track mixer parameters and transport. MIDI Learn is supported.
Platforms and reliability
- New MiyooPorts ARMHF package.
- Added GitHub Actions for reproducible, validated builds for Windows, Android, Linux AppImage, PortMaster, MiyooPorts, and Web.
- Linux/Windows compatibility fixes.
Alpha release: keep backups of important projects and report unexpected behavior, especially on the new Miyoo support.

MiyooPorts test build (2026-10-06)
Unofficial MiyooPorts test package built from commit 8bf3a38. CI compilation and ZIP integrity check passed. Not tested on Miyoo hardware; use as a test build, not a stable release.
ChooChooTracker v1.0.14-alpha
ChooChooTracker v1.0.14-alpha
This alpha brings together all changes since v1.0.12.
Native rendering and Android
- Native builds now render through a persistent 640x480 SDL composition canvas. Android no longer relies on retained EGL window contents, fixing the disappearing tracker UI and unstable title screen.
- GPU rendering uses VSync when render targets are available, with an automatic software fallback for older SDL renderers.
- Pixel-art textures use nearest-neighbor scaling. The title screen's compact menu font is rendered without lossy GPU downsampling.
- Android now handles portrait, landscape, square displays, surface recreation, backgrounding, and rotation more reliably.
Graphics and monitoring
- Added Graphics settings, including the active renderer and a persisted Waveform FPS control from 1 to 60 FPS (default: 30).
- UI and controls continue at 60 FPS while waveform generation follows the selected cadence, including the full instrument scope.
- Added a theme-aware mini piano for active notes and compact per-track Mixer peak meters.
Music workflow
- Improved the aChChid 303 instrument workflow.
- PCM Sample instruments support persisted slicing from 2 to 32 slices.
- Desktop key-jazz editing now works in Song, Chain, and Project screens, with clipboard shortcuts and corrected deletion and cursor behavior.
- Polish desktop keyboards now retain QWERTY defaults instead of being classified as QWERTZ.
MIDI and PortMaster
- Reworked MIDI In and MIDI Out routing: auditioning, note tracking and panic, Program/Bank state, generic CC FX, channel mapping, and saved device selection.
- Added robust PortMaster MIDI support and fixed PortMaster audio-device selection, settings playback, and key mapping.
- Restored compatibility with older PortMaster SDL2 renderers while preserving crisp nearest-neighbor output.
Settings and reliability
- Settings are organized into focused Synths, Mixer, and Graphics submenus.
- Fixed Settings setup/draw regressions.
- Windows monitor waveform refresh defaults to 30 FPS.
Validated packages
- Android APK (arm64-v8a and armeabi-v7a)
- Windows portable ZIP
- Linux x86_64 AppImage
- PortMaster ARM64 ZIP
- Web ZIP and
web/dist
ChooChooTracker v1.0.12-alpha
ChooChooTracker v1.0.12-alpha
This alpha collects everything merged since v1.0.11.
Hotfix update (September 29)
- Fixed fine left/right edits for percentage controls in the Mixer.
- Fixed Android viewport scaling on square and other unusual screen ratios. The 4:3 tracker canvas now fits fully instead of cropping its left and right columns.
- Android imports now use the system document picker correctly for WAV samples and projects.
- Waveform and table cursors render smoothly independently from the audio callback; Android audio buffering adapts to the device.
CRDnow offers only true musical inversions, and Cutoff modulation has a fine, musical exponential range up to six octaves.- The refreshed packages are
v1.0.14-alpha(versionCode 14on Android), so Android installs as an update over the preceding package.
Highlights
- New global Scale / Quantize screen: choose a root and a compact set of musical scales, or build a custom 12-note scale. Notes in phrases remain chromatic; quantization happens at playback, so a song can be reharmonized non-destructively. Individual tracks can opt out.
- New
SCL XYphrase FX automates the active scale and root during playback. - New
CRD XYphrase FX turns a note into a fixed chord, with inversions and up to four paraphonic voices on the software engines. Every chord voice follows the active scale. AY instruments deliberately remain monophonic. - New
STAFX spelling, an alias of sample-startSST. - Added the experimental Sintered drum synth and the Multi Modulation Engine (MME), plus refined instrument model controls, calibrated engine loudness, and restored modulation defaults.
Workflow and reliability
- Live mode now queues the next chain at the end of the current chain instead of advancing immediately.
- Table
VOLis correctly applied, enabling volume-based gates and stutters (for example0F / 00withHOP 00). - Stick live modes now include
HOLD,TOGGL, andFREE. - Project-load failures are surfaced clearly; a successful load clears a stale autosave warning.
- Fixed reopening projects with fewer than eight tracks and corrected VortexTracker/VT2 imports so their track count is retained.
Project and community
- Added a contributor guide: GitHub PRs are welcome, including AI/agent-assisted work, while keeping the project MIT-friendly, simple, and focused on a handheld groovebox rather than a DAW.
- Updated acknowledgements and documentation, including decoupled tables and Steam Deck compatibility notes.
Packages
- Windows portable package
- Web bundle
- Android APK and Play-ready AAB (arm64-v8a and armeabi-v7a)
- PortMaster ARM64 package
The AppImage is not part of this release: the repository has no AppImage target and the required Linux packaging tooling is unavailable in this build environment.
ChooChooTracker v0.1.0-prealpha.7 — Sintered
Experimental release introducing Sintered, a six-model experimental drum synth. Includes the validated PortMaster package.
v1.0.11
MME hotfix
oops, forgot to display ADSR and waveform properly
ChooChooTracker v1.0.10
- Introducing MME - Multi Modulation Engine: a new two-internal-oscillator synth centred on oscillator interactions, based on modified Mutable Warps DSP and inspired by Noise Engineering. Seven models: Ring, Fold, Cross, VPM, Sync, Logic, and Vocode. A heavy-hitting, angry techno/industrial voice.
- Bogie receives a substantial sound pass: wider macro ranges, model-specific labels, and more expressive metallic, noise, and FM behaviour. Overall improved sound. Not aggressive enough yet, I'll work on that ;)
- Table retrigger modes: the new Retrig setting chooses when a table restarts: Inst, Phrase, Chain, or Free. Use tables as automation lanes.
- BYOWTBL: smoother frame morphing between wavetable frames.
- Controls and tuning: harmonised parameter ranges, tweaked curves and values
- Sample loader: previews for AY samples, single-cycle waves, and wavetables.
- aChChid: fixed clipped values and improved cutoff/decay displays.
ChooChooTracker v1.0.9
Bogie drums, Live Mode, a refreshed Android interface, and fixes across playback and editing.
New
- Bogie drum synth: 12 models (Kick, Snare, Hat, Clap, Tom, Rim, FM, Noise, Cowbell, Cymbal, Shaker and Clave), six sound-shaping macros, multimode filtering, modulation and motion recording. Includes 12 starter instruments.
- Live Mode: double-tap OPT on the Song screen to switch modes. Launch and queue chains independently per track, switch at chain or phrase boundaries, and queue several selected tracks together.
- FX copy/paste between Phrase and Table: transfer complete FX lanes or just selected command/value cells.
Improvements
- Better Android UI: revised portrait and landscape touch controls, a square D-pad, clearer action buttons, and a separate Live/Motion section.
- Faster instrument and modulation navigation, including grouped modulation-source menus and direct destination cycling.
- Mute and solo selected Song columns together.
- Consistent secondary-view shortcut: double-tap OPT to switch Standard/LFO wavetable views, matching Song/Live Mode.
Bug fixes
- Fix intermittent Android audio crackling by preferring AAudio, with OpenSL ES as an initialization fallback. Verified on a Pixel 7a with continuous tone and full songs.
- Smoothly limit aChChid resonance/accent peaks before they reach the mixer.
- Correct cutting and pasting partial FX selections.
- Restore compatibility with the older SDL version used by the PortMaster toolchain.
Validation
- 217 automated tests passed (1,888,847 assertions).
- Windows and Web builds completed; refreshed browser bundle included in the source commit.
- PortMaster ARM64 package built and archive checked (glibc 2.29 or newer). This release still needs a check on a physical PortMaster device.
- Android APK and Play bundle use version 1.0.4, code 9.
ChooChooTracker v1.0.8
Fixes stale AY Wavetable preview pixels on SDL2/Windows and adds a persisted linear LFO view (OPT + PLAY) with a zero guide.
ChooChooTracker v1.0.6
Grieg FM demo is now the first-launch project. Includes the instrument scope playback fix, the PortMaster package, and the checked-in Web build in web/dist.
