v1.13
What's New
This version expands the limit to over 4,000 arbitrary elements per single font asset (The previous version supported a maximum of 256 elements). Accompanying this change, a new arb(...) statement has been added to get the arbitrary index of a specific font asset of a Unicode character. Additionally, the font editor now supports editing arbitrary ranges and exporting the full UTF-8-to-arbitrary-index mapping. This makes it easier for wide range dynamic character drawing, for purposes such as multilingual, user input characters, etc. The IME example added in this version fully utilizes recent new features, including arbitrary filling, assembly blocks. The assembler received important improvements. This update also includes various bug fixes and performance improvements.
Official Kernels
The kernels distributed by default with the GB BASIC binary include a "Default" and a "Scroll Shooting". In addition, there are a few other official kernels. This page contains official kernels that were not bundled into the binary distribution. See the official external kernels in the "Assets" section below for download. Visit this tutorial for usage.
Scene Transfer Kernel
This kernel implements scene blit and transition methods.
Consider two scenarios: First, displaying game dialogue by temporarily replacing a portion of the map's tilemap instead of using the window layer, then restoring the scene display after the dialogue ends. Second, switching between game scenes with a scrolling effect rather than a fade out/in. This kernel was created to fulfill these requirements.
See Scene Transfer Kernel for details.
SFC Mouse Kernel
This kernel is integrated with an SFC/SNES mouse driver, and enables using it as the input hardware of the touch APIs. This requires the SGB adapter to bridge between the ROM software and the SFC/SNES hardware.
See SFC Mouse Kernel for details.
Speech Synthesizer Kernel
This kernel implements a realtime speech synthesizer that outputs gibberish voice on Game Boy.
See Speech Synthesizer Kernel for details.
How to Install
1. Opening the Kernel Installation Interface
There are two ways to open the kernel installation interface:
- Click the chip button on the top-right corner of the home screen
- Click the "Application" -> "Kernels..." menu item under the main menu
2. Installing a Kernel
Click the "Install" button on the "Installed Kernels" dialog. Then select a kernel package (.zip), and confirm to install, (i.e. The .zip file that contains this txt file).
3. Uninstalling a Kernel
Click the delete button next to the kernel twice to uninstall it.
